Those are great pics of the sunsets / sunrises. Haven't yet spent a night on our 26M due to HOT summer here in Georgia. Looking forward to cooler weather when we can experience those types of views.
My better half has signed up for lessons and is quickly learning that sailing is a continuing education process. I am happily being placed into the roll of modification manager and her the captain.

Well Nell I'd recommend that you keep your sense of humor- Don't take yourself too seriously, but keep your charge safe. keep the ability to laugh or smile at yourself & simply Enjoy The Ride

Was out this past weekend. Terrible sailing at sunset but great evening to be on the lake. After the sun went down the wind picked up and I ended up sailing around until midnight.

I traded for a newer model and found that newer isnt always better , so I went back to a classic model, a 1967 a few dings but a much better all round unit

A few weeks ago we crossed the US border with Bear Hunt in tow, and were getting a bit of a hard time from the border guard, when another guard walked over and asked us if the name came from the children's book. He had spent hours reading the book to his kids and had his buddy wave us through.

I believe that you cannot change your handle on this forum, but if you do, it resets to zero.

We spent Christmas at a resort in the Dominican Republic, on a beach that was swept for me daily so that I wouldn't have to see seaweed, with free drinks in my hand and free all-you-can eat 24 hr restaurants, and gaurds with shotguns patrolling the beach at night. Our "vacations" on the Mac are much more hectic, with huge logistics and technical challenges: feeding everyone, finding anchorages, planning the days' runs, keeping track of gas, weather, traffic, kids, etc. But a responsibility-free, all-inclusive week on a Caribbean resort just doesn't give the same level of satisfaction. Not even close. When we get to a beach on the Mac, it's a beach in its natural state, sometimes with bottle-caps or glass, or weeds, or whatever, but we always get the feeling that it's OUR beach, OUR sunset, because we got there on our own, we found it, we navigated there, we SUCCEEDED. I didn't just "buy" it, like I "bought" the beach in the D.R. Of course, the Mac itself had to be bought, but that single family trip to the D.R. cost about the same as a 26D in good condition. We have many non-boating friends who go to these resorts yearly, or sometimes twice a year, and rave about them. When I was younger I would have been jealous, probably, but now I feel kinda sorry for them because they don't even realize that they are missing the joy of achievement in their vacation. I am sure most in the Mac community know what I mean about the feeling you get when you have brought your boat to a special place. It's priceless, because before you leave the dock the responsiblity can be scary, even overwhelming, but the sense of achievement that comes with a successful voyage is amazing.

The joy of achievement - your analysis of the different types of vacations is quite well summed up. perhaps as MacGregor owners we are similar in that respect.
