That is a great report.

I am keen to tighten the standing rigging, though I won't be able to connect the roller furling forestay if I do tighten it any more. I get quite a bow in the jib leading edge profile above 12 kts.

Yep. Mine is the same. I have my mast raising line so tight you can pluck it and only dogs can hear it. I have a big guy pulling down on the Furler while I pin it and still get forestay arc. You can rig a backstay (both of my buddies wanted to rig a temporary backstay using the topping lift). If you have a traveler, you can actually use the traveler and main sheet to tighten the forestay (Charley [the guru] showed us that trick the other day as part of my advanced class in sail trimming). It will make your skin crawl the first time you see someone pull on your multi-part main sheet until your forestay arc goes almost straight, but it does work. It's a good way to find out if your main sail is still strong, too.

Highlander runs a backstay if I remember correctly. But, he's the king... If you want ideas for sail/sail handling mods, that's the boat to check out.

It seems unfathomable how you keep her standing. What was the wind speed and boat speed, do you recall?
Do you have weather Helm?

I can already see your forestay tension is greater than mine.

I've been thinking about changing the standing rigging for the side shrouds to Johnson quick release type setup so I can have higher rig tension and still drop and raise the mast easily.

I know I started this thread asking best speed in 15 to 20 knots of wind but with three crew and my self in protective waters with 20 knots plus before the knocked down I was working the Hankon 150% genoa skipping along at 6 to 6.5 knot on the Garmin and then ( wait for it ) 25 knots over whelmed us tossing the tidy ship about we saw 7.3 all I could here from the two lady crew members saying mike , mike , mike as the bottom of the sail just about touched the water. I had to release that sail. Al was good but after could not keep our course any longer with that high a breeze, time to pull that sail down crank the motor for the dock , what a rush

Were you fighting weather helm at the wheel? I know I do, now not as much since moving mast forward. Turnbuckle is at max length. My new tough skin genny is larger than the stock 150 measurements.

We did not have a problem steering until the gust went up from 20 knots. After that we could not hold our original heading with that that much cloth up . Most of the time I have my Hobie 16 jib up for a storm sail when the wind is around 20 knots with the main out. it points quite well . I have it set on the 2 nd fore stay that is aft of our main fore stay.

While technically true, the hull speed is less applicable to Macs than other sailboats, due to its flatter, hydroplaning bottom.

I am pleased to say this last weekend, with 17+ knots of wind all weekend - coming off the land so no waves - SeaSaw topped 6.2 knots for a short time on a broad reach.

Kudos to you. Best I've ever had wad 5.5 kots. Pretty happy with that.
