Another question - this time, windows.

So I tore off the old rose colored windows. I'd ordered a new set from Rudder Craft about 3 weeks ago. After I tore off the starboard side windows I wanted to see how the shape of the new ones would look on the boat so I took them out of the box for the first time. The instructions from Ruddercraft say that they'll fit in the same holes as the old windows. Of course, nothing is easy. Some of the holes line up but not all of them. I guess I have no choice but to drill new holes. Has anyone else had this problem?

Also - a small patch of fiberglass was pulled off the boat with a piece of the window. What's the best and easiest thing to do to fix that? I'm also beginning to think that I should give the sides a new coat of paint while the windows are off.

The old windows came off in about 50 pieces and there must have been a pound of silicone holding them on. Took me a good hour just to remove the windows and clean the one side of the boat.

GOODBYE UGLY WINDOWS!

Ahoy,

Don't know much about furlers, but any man who loves Beagles has to be a good man.

The fiberglass is an easy fix. If you go to a marine store, you probably can buy a small kit.
West Marine sells some good epoxy and fiberglass. Talk to a paint store as well, especially those who know about car restoration.
You can buy from other sources and probably much cheaper, but West Marine would be the easiest to work with.

Did either dog go with on the water?

Thanks Jim - since the damaged areas will be covered by a window I just decided to put several coats of my oil based white rustoleum paint on there. Fixed that right up. I do need to go buy a small kit though to fix a couple of other problem spots around the boat

Neither of the beagles have been on the boat. They shed a lot in the summer and I don't want to clean up the mess. Plus I'd look like a big ole' redneck because both the girls would be barking and howling at everything I bet! :D

My wife's little purse is going to go along the next time. He weighs 5 lbs., doesn't shed and has a life jacket! LOL

Still no word back at all from Rudder Craft - that really surprises me. :o

I've now got all the old windows and the pounds of old silicone off of the boat.

I just laid out the new windows on the boat and I'm pretty sure that they are supposed to go like this:

Look ok to you guys? I don't want to be drilling holes in the wrong places!

So the day finally came - we floated the boat off the trailer, motored out of the marina and made it back! WOO-HOO!!! :D

Went about 5 miles from the Virginia side of the Potomac River over to the Maryland side where one of my buddies was anchored. Met up with him and grilled some hot dogs and had a few drinks. We motored over and were planning on sailing back but the wind died so we motored back as well. Hopefully the wind will cooperate this weekend!

Go to Walmart- buy "Bondo-Glass" It's in a black/green can and has a photo of a boat on it. It's a short strand fiberglass filler...I use it all the time.
Just make sure it's the greenish can, NOT the red one which is auto filler and not the right stuff. If you need a photo of the can holler and I'll post one of it.

Why pay more for West Marine? I never shop there with those outrageous prices.

Stainless Steel fasteners and etc are also best to buy at your local True-Value or Ace hardware store....I bought the fasteners for my new stern rail yesterday for about $14...West Marine would've charged about $40 for the same SS screws and bolts.

Awesome. Grilled hot dogs on the water taste better than anyplace else.

Thanks - I'll look for the bondo at WallyWorld. Already been getting my SS stuff at Lowe's when I can. I go to West Marine occasionally, but not often.

Hoping to do some bodywork and paint in the next month or so. Trying to get all this &^$!%(^ bottom paint off. What a pain!!! Then I have to figure how to store the boat over the winter...
