Some real fun stuff to read here. I was wondering why no one seems to put the coolers across from the head On the M like I do.If you take the cushion off you have a bout 4 feet of space to put them. Of course you have to strap em down. Side note I found a neat little device at radio shack that will let you, by remote turn your lights on and off. You have to be hooked up to shore power and have a 120 volt light but its kinda nice to push a remote button and the lights go on before I go into the cabin. Just a thought

I was actually thinking of building a cooler into that bunk across from the head. On the practical sailor website (if you are a subscriber), there are plans on how to build one. I was going to try it sometime once most of the more important mods are done and have free time

In fact, it is the second row of windows that is faster! When asked just exactly what the second row of windows is faster than, their response was:

I like to put my cooler across from the head on our 04 M. It gives it easier access and since I have the 23Gal plastimo water tank below, I don't go into that hold area anyway. With the cussion removed for the ice chest, you also have extra storage area there as well. On longer trips, I can add a second cooler to the aft bunk location if needed.

One BIG benefit is that it gets some of the weight out of the starboard side of the boat. I have my two 115AH batteries under the galley and with the head and other gear on the starboard side, I do have to watch the "ballance" of the boat.

I will post some mod photos once I get a NEW digital camera....don't ask what happend to my old one....I think it is in a rental car somewhere in North Carolina!!!

Hey, you guys are digressing off topic again, conflict is good, it's always helped develop my marital relationship.
I have the '03 26M and I think it is the finest pocket cruising powersailer hands down bar none. The blue hull is definitely faster
I remember my first view of the Macx as there was no M then and wondered about the waste of space at the transom as I perceived it. Some call it a back porch but I saw it as inefficient use of space. When I finaly got myself in a financial position to purchase, three years later the M was available and much to my surprise it came with an improved transom design. I have been on the '05M at the boatshow and saw that Roger caved in to the vocal minority and changed the interior for the worse. Between the two M's the '03-'04 model makes the most efficient use of available space, the '05 design is a step backwards as it will never be the spacious dinette of the X, why bother trying to mimick it. I see new boat models in the same perspective as new car models, they are always an improvement over previous models. (excepting the "05) Would I take a new '05 on even trade for my '03?? NO, but I do plan to aquire those nice fake wood window frames, really like em, I'd also like to get that transom arch for the mast some day, not wild about the pod holder. I removed that goofy shelf from the head and put the larger pottie right on the floor, much better, still hate using the head though, gatorade bottles rock. When money permits it I plan to do many more changes/mods to suit our style and make the Admiral happier, there is no single boat to suit everyones needs, it's good that these Macs are bare bones spartan, leaves plenty of room for personal customizing.
As for Moe's critical views, he is entitled to his opinions, as harsh as they may be try and take them with a grain of salt. I actually got a chuckle from some of his diagram shots, rather than take offense to them, a dozen of those pictures could not make me regret buying the M. As hard as it may be to accept, Moe has a lot of good sound advice and expertise to offer and I for one heed all of it. I even PM'd him for some personal advice on one occasion. On the other hand his opinions on the M suck, but so what, my boats better than his.

I did the same thing with the water tank except mine is 13 gallons. I also picked up a house 1.5cf refrig. and that is mounted across from the head. The nice thing about this is there is always 110 power where the boat is and as much time as I spend there I was buying Ice everytime I went over to the boat. Now there is always something cold to drink on board. I also stuffed a bunch of kids capri sun drinks in the freezer part. That allows me to sail all day and the fridge stays cold till I get back. How long will the fridge last being plugged in and unplugged all the time I dont know. But the thing cost 70 dollars and works great now. Also Karen found one of those nice little wicker tv tray type things that I mounted on top of the fridge so I can throw all the little junk from my pocket like keys and wallet, a box of wet ones. You know stuff that you really have no particular place for.

I dont believe this is off topic Like suggested as its a nicer way to point out what works on the M for long stays in the slip on the trailer or on the water.

I also have a yamaha 1000 watt gen. that will run the fridge just fine if stays are away from power.

After reading all of this,

I am buying a power boat..................wait, I have one!

OK, I am definately buying a sailboat.............wait, I have one!

And so do all of YOU!!!! M or X!
