Last summer we did a cruise of the Chesapeake (380 miles on the water 611.5km). The first leg of the trip was done with the mast down on our M. That leg was almost 50 miles (80.4 km). We found it to be uncomfortable.

Our intent was to raise the mast at Delaware City Marina, but we had rigging problems, and decided to remove the mast. We left it in storage at DCM, and picked it up on the return trip 11 days later. A wise decision.

On the St. Johns system, without the mast, I am pretty sure you can get as far as the FL HWY 50 bridge/overpass. I have no idea what the clearance is for that overpass/bridge. I think low freeboard fishing boats can go under that highway and the FL HWY 528/Beachline south of HWY 50, but I just wouldn't hazard a guess about a Mac w/o mast. I know the Florida Brightline Rail System has done recent construction so their trains can run from Miami to Orlando International Airport. That has to take them over the St. Johns at some point, as well. Railroad bridges/overpasses in Florida are notoriously low. :?

Hi Herschel and NiceAft!

Thanks for the information!
It is appreciated! :) :)

As our intent to explore the ICW eventually, the route south would take us right past the St John’s River at Jacksonville.
It would be a great option to take along the way if the ocean isn’t accommodating for southerly travels ( like the Atlantic is always calm and placid along the Florida coast….right? :D :D )

Again, this is something that looks like a beautiful river trip destination all by itself!
You have a wonderful location to explore and enjoy!

Best Regards

A pic is worth a thousand words, as they say...

:o !!!Omg!!! :o

:D Now THAT could result in some serious coastal down wind sailin if that stays off the coast! :D
(Personally I’d be tempted to run it up on shore and keep running west! :o :|
