Yeah, and I'd like to thank my girlfriend in highschool (to remain nameless... but her first name was Patty) who owned a 1963 Ford Falcon sedan, and who drove me home one night after I'd had a particularly enthusiastic evening of 'liquid refreshment' in which I managed to polish off the better part of a bottle of Harvey's Bristol Cream with the boys (hey, back then you couldn't be picky - you'd drink pretty much whatever you could get your hands on!)... and, feeling not all that well indeed, I threw up out the window as we were motoring along and managed to actually stain the purple paint all the way down the side of her passenger door!!! Ugh. Not one of my better moments, but at least I had the good sense not to drive!

Class of 1974

When I lived in Argentina in the mid '80s there were Ford Falcons EVERYWHERE! Apparently Ford sold the tooling to a plant down there, and they were rolling them off the line in the 80s!

The only car more common than the Falcon at the time was the original Dodge Colt, also being produced down there.

One of my first cars was a 1971 Dodge Colt (thought it was made in Japan by Mitsubishi though). What a blast that little thing was. With a 1.6L engine, it could smoke second gear and chirp third gear (rear wheel drive of course in those days). That thing had more acceleration under 65 mph than my Plymouth Sport Satellite with 318 V8 in it....good fuel economy and a fun to drive too! Of course, the V8 would rule above 65 mph...but hey, in those days, you weren't supposed to go faster than 55 thinking of a popular Sammy Hagar song of the times.

I bought a new Dodge Colt in 1980. Front-wheel drive, hatchback, about 30 mpg. It ran great for many years, then rebuilt the engine w/ my son as a first project car for him (then 15 years old).

It had some sort of overdrive lever adjacent to the 4-speed transmission shifter ... upshot was 7 forward gears ... he loved it!

All right were talking cars here. The grosses car I ever had was a 1955 Pontiac when I was 19.

What made is so gross:
The previous owner had tourched all the rust away.
The previous owner had brutally taken a sledge hammer to it.
I drove it under a viaduct and intentionally scraped the cement sides to scare passengers.
When I wasn't around some friends pranked me by crudely spraying a naked lady on top. My silver spray paint was unable to completely cover it.
The leaf springs went out and I replaced them with wood blocks.

It ran great though!
(Until I smashed into old houses on a block condemn for a new HoJos. This helped convince my friends not to use it on our Florida trip.)

You talking bout your gross car reminds me of my 52 chevy.

It ran great too.

It broke in half and when we took it to the welding shop the welder laughed us back out to the street.

He said the frame was so rusty there was nothing left to weld to.

In closing, at least when I started the thread I tried to make it vaguely about sailing, HELLOO"OOO remember sailing.
