So, our 26X has been in storage for almost 3 years now, and I'm intent on getting it back in the water this summer. Because it's been stored in a location where no water was available, I have not been able to run the motor at all... I'm dreading the ramifications of this.

But setting that aside for a moment, my immediate problem is regarding the lower unit. As I mentioned long ago, apparently the prop shaft seal leaked on our last trip on the boat before the hurricane, and the lower unit was trashed as a result. I have the new lower unit, and the replacement was going along fine until I hit a minor snag that brought everything to a halt.

When I pulled the old lower unit off, I noticed at the top of the unit (where it mates with the rest of the motor) there was a small black plastic fitting with a short section of ~1/4" tubing attached. I guess it's a gearcase vent? This was not present on the new lower unit (but the same threaded hole for the fitting was there). No problem, I'll just use the fitting and tubing from the old lower unit. Unfortunately, the fitting broke as I was trying to remove it.

I've looked around at West Marine, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc., and cannot find a fitting this small. Any idea where I can get this? Or, since it was not on the new lower unit, is it even required?

That is for your Speedometer.......see the small tiny hole in front of your lower unit?........that feeds that fitting. you should also see a black rubber hose near the bracket witha black fitting on it..............same thing......it would connect to a speedometer. No, you don't need to hook it up unless you have that type of speedometer.

I recently replaced my lower unit, and I left it unconnected. You'll be fine.
