Interior Window Trim - 2004 M

Hey folks -
One upgrade I'd really like to make to my 2004 26M would be some window trim similar to what the 2005+ models got.
I spoke to the factory and they told me that just buying a set of trim for a 2005+ would not work because with the new trim they changed how the windows are mounted in the hull and hence I would not be able to install the trim with my old-style mounting.
So, I'm considering just cutting the trim from plywood and finishing it, then mounting it inside as a purely cosmetic addition.
Does anyone know of a source of plywood with pre-attached shiny veneer like that which is used to build the interior of the 26M's at the factory? And the plastic edging that they use to do the edges/seams?
Any thoughts on attaching these rings of trim to the inside of the boat? Marine Velcro? 5200? In the event that there was a window issue (crack, leak), the trim would have to be removable to get at the screws holding the lexan in place.

Well Andy, You can do what my wife did on our '03 M.
She bought a matching set of curtains and comforter along with a couple throw cushions. The curtains were not an off the shelf fit so she took them to a hobby seamstress and had custom fitted curtains with a black backing and trim along the top made from the original curtain material. They ended up costing a bit more but it sure eliminated any need for window trim like the '05-'07 models and it really makes for a color coordinated interior, really provides a nice atmosphere. The colors and pattern of the ensemble really do enhance the overall interior appearance and make wood window frames redundant. Just make sure it is a woman that makes the selection.

Hi Terry, As you can see in my carpet mod on my 03M I am presently working my way up to the curtains and the bedspreads etc. I will be doing something similar to you. One of my absolute musts is to be able to have curtains but only if they can leave all the windows completely open during the day. I like to see outside.as much as I like my night privacy. I would enjoy seeing the colour of your set up. I am keeping a match with the wood and the tan cushions and bulkhead.

Was thinking of putting some trim around the windows too.. but decided it wouldnt be worth the effort as wife wanted curtains!
Here is what I did to our boat -
curtains and carpet
Curtains on slides, and notice great place for a boat hook!
New carpet -
'shades' on deck windows -

Andy whatever you do don't use the Later m trim as it goes like this only it is much much worse now 12 months later.

We have made up curtains to cover them but will have to either replace or find new edging trim to fit as they are pretty ugly now.

Just my opinion but the later Ms (which I have one of) window trims plastic wood is tacky, get some red oak, a router and jig saw and make some real wood ones, then you can stain it and make it look like teak, walnut or cherry and any additional interior mads involving wood you can match up nicely.

Think your right Tangetair but it's going to have to wait now but by the time we get home they will be worse again with the heat and humidity.
Curtains were an easy fix but eventually you need to open them.

I work in the interior design industry. Some very wealthy people turn to me for advice, and I like the wood trim

It's quite appropriate for the interior of the M. Can window treatments make it even better, sure, but done poorly, they can make it far worse.
I kept the outside of the boat serious. Simple black and white. White boat, black cockpit cushions and sail cover. the inside however is different. I basically left it alone, and just made it more personal. If you want to see tacky, I'll try to supply a photo of the parrot I attached to the port cabin

I call him Mac

All sailors need a parrot

The boat is for fun. Kitsch works well in it

Well I watch HGTV and the Fine Living Channel and some very wealthy people turn their head when they drive by my house

Yes the boat is fun but kishke usually spoils and looks terrible if left in the cockpit.

Naahh... let's go with something all-American.
How's about a nice Scrapple Sandwich?
Gee... ya think it's kosher?

From what I hear you don't want the wood trim used in the M's. It was causing a lot of problems. Once they had cut the groove around the edge for the plastic tee moulding the wood became too fragile to do it's job.
Besides being trim, it is also an integral part of the window installation. Screws are run from outside through the plexi and fiberglass into the wood. The trim is actually serving as the inside structure holding the windows on. Because it is compromised by the tee moulding and is real thin to begin with it has warped in many boats.
They have done away with the wood trim in the '08 Macs. The liner now is moulded to turn out and meet the plexi eliminating the need for any trim to hide the raw edges where the windows are cut into the outer deck panels.

That's a shame they've eliminated it on the '08 models. If done properly, the addition of wood can really warm up the interior.

I quite agree KM.
I have seen the inside of Highlanders '08 cabin and find without the trim it looks a bit plain.
Mine is the '07 with the trim.
