Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, VA fire ????

Post by James V »

I need to go by the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, VA where there is a fire. Any reports on the waterways close to this that I need to be aware of?

It doesn't look great but it should work. :?

http://www.fws.gov/northeast/greatdisma ... ldfire.htm They are due for a status update soon.

The Albemarle-Chesapeake canal is open, I don't know if you are committed to going to the swamp canal.

Drummond lake is closed.

The Dismal swamp canal appears to be open; I called the number listed (757-201-7642) but got voicemail. Depending on the wind, it will probably be smoky on the northern part of the canal.

I'll keep an eye out for any updates.

This PDF shows where the smoke will be.

If you can stay in NC and wait it out, you will probably be better. If you have to go, it'll stink but it'll work.
