I intend to add a second axle to my trailer. I am interested to hear of any experience others may have had doing this modification regarding axle position, need to extend trailer frame, moving front axle forward, new tongue weight etc.
thanks, Bob

I have a tandem axle on my Venture 25. It is not the original trailer but the application of the axles works very well. There are two pieces of angle that go fore/aft on each side. Then two pieces of rectangle tube welded across ("V" shaped) that Kinda' form a box. The spring mounts are welded to the fore/aft "L" pieces, springs and axles attached. The actual trailer sits cradled in the "L" angle held by three "U" bolts on each side. It is easy to adjust the balance by just moving the axle assembly under the trailer.

I don't understand. What is the advantage to adding a second axle? Added boat Weight capacity? Do not have to worry about blown tire? Two more brake rotors ? If it's better i'd like to know why so i can add it to my list of things to-do as i have my list down to 187,790,522.. And i have not even mentioned my list of thing's i want..(but don't really need)

What is the reasoning behind a second axle?

The reason I wanted the extra axle was stability. I never get blown around by the semi's. I tend to travel too fast between Arizona and the California coast and have not had any sway at all (even at 80mph). Obviously the four tires give me some comfort.
