On my Mac26X the kids xomplain that they are on the water but not near the water. They cannot touch the water and getting into and out of the water is hard with the slipery stainless ladder right next to the motor etc..

The kids could touch the water from the outriggers and catch fish there too. Then there's the rear end with a nice easy boarding spot and internal steering for ea 40hp outboard.

I agree Telstar has Mac26X beat, but at tripple the price!

Triple the price AND only 2/3 the accomodations and storage. One double and two singles won't cut it for me.

Now maybe if the kids could sleep in the outriggers.

It sure is a neat concept. I would be a little wary of all those moving parts.....and I agree that the accommodations are a little tight.

It's definitely a sharp looking boat tho.

Except during storms I sleep outside anyway, kids = 3 girls 1 boy + wife.
Boy on deck with me, wife and girls below no problem.

Triple the price but triple the speed. And no more wifey gripin' about burying the rubrail in the yacht club regattas. Just teasin' shes getting way better about that. We got sandbagged at the last race by a friend told us he was gonna reef and play it safe. "He didnt" 2nd heat we pulled out the reef and were layed over pretty good to the upwind mark and she didnt gripe!

I highly doubt its in my cards so dont blow my wish list for me. (She still wants a Beneteau 393.)

We are starting to get serious about bareboating one (393) the end of summer down south. Thinking about the benefits of the sunsail (charter owner) program for semi retirement.

Scott - If you, or anyone else, are thinking of getting into a charter/owner-program, I would do some serious checking up on them.
Several years ago I was thinking of doing this with a 26X (not Sunsail). I talked to the charter company owner on the phone, he sounded agreeable, and even mentioned that his wife was from Wisconsin, which put me somewhat at ease. I went to his location in Florida, and while waiting to talk to him, I heard him say on the phone, "My wife is from New York".
Go where the boats are, unannounced. See what he has for help. While I was there, a man from Atlanta was pulling his boat out early, breaking his contract, which cost him a lot of money.
Check on the tax laws. I don't think this is as lucrative as it used to be.
Read the fine print. Once he has your boat, you lose all control. If you are in MO, or wherever, how do you know if your boat is being rented out, or not, as he claims.

The sunsail co is apparently the biggest and one of the oldest. Ive been requesting lit from a # of them for years.

All of the sailing rags state that sunsail is a good co.

I would be a slow go, not like I have a lot of disposabble income. If I did it would be a large IP with perm crew.

robert, some teak or rudder steps on the stern ladder make really a difference! and it is much cheaper than a telstar !

Catamarans are incredible speed(sail) and stability wise, but I'd like to see them launch and retrieve one. Maybe its easier than I imagine.

I love the Telstar also, but like so many I don't like the price. I have a question to ask the group. At what price would you consider buying a boat like the telstar, or any of the other 26 - 30 ft boat that pop up at this website?

Between my original post and today, my wife and girls have decided on a 48' catamaran charter for this years long vacation. For the shrt on were towing the Mac to stockton lake, so. MO.

Go figure they want to go to the BVI's. Could the charter article re: catamarans in the BVI's in this months Cruising world have anything to do with it. Hmm I wonder. They saw the layout shots of the main cabins and the clear blue water and that was that.

The only decision now is to go in the end of October or mid Dec. Any thoughts on weather patterns in those windows would be appreciated.

Scott, I chartered a 38', 4 years ago in the BVI. It was during Thanksgiving. Great prices and after the hurricane season which I believe ends in October. I say December would be the best time with perfect weather.
