This is a non toxic, natural, biodegradable product that has cleaned up our mildewed boat cushions and original Mac uphostry beautifully.

I am highly sensitive to bleach and most other chemicals so I gave this a try.

Disclaimer : I cannot say my methods won't ruin your foam or your upholstry, especially since I do not know if the upholstry material on the Mac is washable, so please do not try this if you are not willing to take the chance that your furnishings may not turn out the way you expect. I do not want dry cleaning chemicals in my or others atmosphere so I washed mine and experienced no color loss but then again, our cushion covers are from 2oo2 so they may have already lost color due to other washings.

Here is how I used the product called BAC-OUT by Biokleen 1800-477-0188: Took upholstry cover off and washed in borax and dishwashing soap. While that was soaking I sprayed undiluted BAC-OUT all over the cushion and squeezed it in and let it sit until it dried. After rinsing the cushion covers, I sprayed them with Bac-out and let them dry without rinsing. No more mildew odor and no irritation to me.

I had tried the bleach route on the first two and it was killling me. This was and is oh so nice and I am almost through with the cushions which smell wonderful. Not an inexpensive product. I used a gallon to do all our cushions. Pardon any spelling errors as I am in a rush.

Just to be clear, is this for cockpit vinyl only,
or cabin fabric as well?

could you relate proportions? Curious how much borax and diswashing soap... I have to do this in late Feb - so the topic is really timely...

Hello, Iused this product for the interior fabric and was happy with the results. However, I posted a disclaimer because I am not sure how your fabric will react. I DID NOT put the fabric covers in the dryer.

My emphasis here is on the safety of this product, especially compared to bleach. I have had no adverse immediate effects. If I am around bleach residue I turn beet red and feel like I have the flu!

Proportions-yikes-Heres from memory- 1/3 a standard bath tub full of water-1 cup borax for the mildew and two good squeezes of Planet Earth dishwashing liguid to degrease. Then I put two smaller pieces or one berth piece of upholstry material in and swished around and then let it sit in the yucky stew for 10 minutes. Then as I was beginning to drain the water, I placed a large plastic tub in the bath tub (grey from Lowes-about 8 bucks) and placed the peices in it till all the water was drained. Then I filled the plastic tub with rinse water and rinsed twice. I then let them flopp over the plastic bin so most of the water would go to the corners and I would squeeze that out until they were light enough to place over the shower curtain holder.

I managed to do two pieces a day. If you do this to your foam cushions just know they take forever to dry in the Pacific Northwest this time of year. I aborted soaking the foam cushions and just sprayed them on both sides with the BAC-OUT and stomped the Bac-OUT in (think stomping grapes!) and left it in to eat up the wee beasties as it dried. That worked beautifully! Actually that worked better than the first foam cushion I washed in Borax but it did not do the same job for the upholstry to I washed it and then when it was dry I gave it a light misting of BAC-OUT just for good measure.
