We are considering trailering to Douglas Lake TN. Any local knowledge of the boating/sailing there would be appreciated. Google shows almost nothing, so I guess it is just a fishing lake. It is close to relatives, that is why we are going.

No One else is responding , soooooooo . I went for a look....... an Internet look anyways.
Its a man made "lake of a sort" at most 1/2 mile wide and 60 miles long. From numerous pictures I saw, on numerous sites! You will ned to beware of shoals and sand bars ........ get a chart and keep the sounder on at all times . Mountains around it may hamper the wind, but at least its not an absolute east to west configured lake / river.

I grew up near there and spent many hours on that lake. Unfortunately... for your need... I'm near blank. I must say that was at least 25 years ago. As a kid it was all about speed boating... as a teenager... it was all about girls and drinking. I just squeeked under the door when the drinking age was 17.

Although fishing was done there, we always felt there was better fishing somewhere else. As east Tennessee lakes go, it was not one of the attractive ones. It always seemed "thick". You couldn't see your toes and during the summer the air always seemed stagnant... it was only comfortable when motoring or in the water. The point being... there wasn't much sailboat traffic even when I was paying attention.
Considering I now sail in north Georgia lakes (a similar terrain to Douglas) when there is wind, it is always changing direction and speed due to the surrounding hills. I routinely make sailing trips to the SC or Florida coasts (similar to your location... I'm envious

) and it gets harder and harder to launch it back into these lakes.
Considering how spoiled you must be, I doubt you'd like it for the sailing experience. Dragging the kids around on the toys is about all its good for.
Sorry, I feel your pain.

Thanks.
The cost-benefit ratio of trailering all that way seems to be on the side of forget-it. Maybe just a camping trip in the mtns will do. I'll keep the boat on the coast and follow your advice.
