MacGregor22 vs Venture22

Hi Folk
! am looking at a boat advertised as a 1981 MacGregor22. Can someone please verify that this is correct. versus a Venture for that model year and where I might get (download) a manual. This boat seems to be in pretty good shape and priced at $2350 with trailer but no motor. Are there any notorious weak points of this model that I should be aware of when inspecting this boat?

You'll find a venture 22 manual under the manuals link (under the resources tab at the top of the page). I don't know when he rebranded but that's probably right. My Venture 222 is a circa 76 model.
Weak points? Mine was worn out when I bought it so I had to do a lot of repairs. The weakest point I can think of is availability of parts. Not many people making stuff for them any more.
I loved that boat. We had great fun on it before moving up.

I have a 79 that I bought last October. Paid $1400 for it. I would say my boat was in excelent condition for its age. The first thing I found when I got my boat home and cleaned out wat that I could not keep water out of it. This is everything leaked when it rained. While I could have lived with it I decited to redo the boat. Almost finished now. Availability of parts I would not worry about to much, as most items are generic off the shelf, and any Macgregor parts can be reproduced at home if needed. The keel winch is just a off the shelf brake winch that is made from carbon steel. If I had not torn my entire boat apart I may not have noticed that the winch drum was compleatly rusted out. But an identical replacment can be found at any local tool supply for $15.

The early boats were Ventures built by MacGregor. Some of us just lump the two names or interchange them

Venture 2-22 1971-1982 (Pop-top)
MacGregor 2-22 1982-1987 (Pop-top & Hull liner)
