can someone direct me to a link or form which explains steps on replacing the impeller ?

I have the need for the same information, our impeller went out on the second day of the BEER Cruise.... I have the technical manuals from Honda but, there is realy no step by step intsruction for replacing the impeller. The views in the manual make it look straight forward except for the mention of a special tool required to remove a seal. If I cant find any better intsruction I may just take the lower unit to the shop.

I tackled impeller replacement for the first time, having taken it to the dealer for service in the past. I reviewed the manual, and ordered the parts. I did end up calling Todd at BWY to clarify a couple of things I didn't completely understand. The job was pretty straight forward, and things went back together and tested out fine. The one tricky thing, and place where it would be easy to screw up, involves placing the rubber impeller into the metal casing. The rubber blades in the impeller are curved slightly once the impeller is slipped into the casing. It's important to get them all curved in the same direction. If they curve backwards, they're likely to break off when the engine is started. On my Nissan TLDI this is accomplished by rotating the drive shaft in a clockwise motion while sliding the metal housing down onto the impeller.

I expect that you should be able to get some helpful tips from the dealer that you order your parts from.

I did the job for the first tim on my DF70 last fall and it was really easy. I have the shop manual, but I found the directions in the package with the impeller were better. The twisting of the shaft was well-covered by the directions. Interestingly, there was no damage, appreciable wear, or loss of flexibility even though I went well over twice the recommended service interval.

I read on the iboat forum where air was used to clear the pee tube. I tried this today and everything seems to be working fine now. I also read on the iboat forum that a regular maintenance interval for the impeller is every 2 years. Since I am going on my 5th year without a change and the instructions make the change sound so easy - I plan the change out the impeller.

thanks all for your hints, i replaced the impeller with out any trouble, working fine now, i also noticed that the impeller showed no signs of wear, was 6 years old, i found that by turning the drive shaft in the direction of clock wise that the impeller smoothly dropped into the metal housing. the pee hole does pop out for cleaning . i found very small mussel shells inside which could block the exit hole.
