Headroom in the head ...

Early M's had the removable shelf in the head area. Later M's have a molded fiberglass shelf.

I want to cut out a portion of this shelf so the porta-pot sits at floor level. Is this fiberglass shelf a structural member?

Has anybody else done this already? Got pictures?

I ass u me he's talking about the raised floor area of the M model in the forward head....... But why ? Into to doing deep leg squats? :)
I ass u me you'll cut out a section and just drop the floor down a couple inches and re-attach and re-glass ?

If you modify the hinge position and cut the bottom of the door - you can set it up so that the door swing out over the cushions on the other side - gives you heaps more room to do the business, and you can still use it as it was originally intended - if you want to.
The girls loved this mod....

I have cut some holes through it to attach the head pump. Thick and not to much room gained at the hull starts to curve at this point. What I have done is put the head on the floor (carefule mounting as the water ballest is just 3/4 inch below the floor) and used the back space to hang cloths. Now my shirts do not look like they came out of a bag.

If no better replys posted soon, call Bill at the factory. He knows his stuff.

When you get a *little* older you might appreciate the height of the head! Right after we bought our :macm: we changed out the porta pottie to get both additional capacity AND height for, ahem, ease of use.

Unless your a very short in height fellow, I have found its strictly back in and sit....... and if I catch you pooping in my pot......... your off the boat!!
OK grand daughters NOT with standing :) Unless we can use the macerator its pee-pee Only!!!

I have the larger capacity porta-pot mounted on a platform

and then held in place with heavy duty velcro

Perfect height for me but the admiral is 4'10" on a tall day and we have a 6-year-old as a regular guest. Their feet dangle when seated and it is hard for them to maintain a steady seat when we're sailing.

So ... that is why I was asking about the raised "shelf" that is moulded into the floor. I was thinking I would cut out just enough to allow the porta-pot to be dropped to floor level and then, for cosmetic purposes, re-glass the inner hull area that is exposed. The other alternative is moving the porta-pot off the shelf & down to the floor and doing the door mod. [or maybe a combination of both]

I thought that "shelf" was over the ballast tank. Maybe not, but I'd be careful of what's under it before cutting.

I like your shelf idea. I've got the potty but don't want it onboard - someone might use it...

I have passed CPVC conduit beneath that space for wiring to an audio panel above the mirror on a new M. There is room, but I'd consider raising the floor before lowering the shelf. You may be able to velcro in a 3-4" step for the little one, and the kid too.

Divecoz,

I'm wondering how I could survive 3 days on board your boat with the rules you impose! No fruit, oatmeal, or fiber??? Luckily Mr. Skipper is willing to empty our porta potty... :D

Though we spent ( I spent ) 5+ weeks on the hook this past winter and we did use the potty ( Mrs Coz visited for 6 days of my 14 weeks) and the macerator pump ..... But when we have guest, its at the Marina where there are numerous potties and showers etc etc. :) As for The Admiral Using as needed ?? I have never ever denied access to The One....... Dive ,MRS. skipper and others......

I was wondering..... since I have an X, what about a flip down hinged footrest for the shorter set? We have an electric head that I would love to raise, but the shorter legged really young set like the not too high setting.

Or maybe I should put another smaller stepstool like I have on the hunter? I like the easy cleaning of the head with out having alot on the floor, Has anyone tried raising and using a plain stepstool, sail 6 to 8 inches tall?

and the real question, where would I hang it then when not in use??

thanks

A folding step sounds good to me for the short folks /kiddies. Maybe along the lines of a fold and lock camper step??
Not in your way and easy enough for them to drop and to LIFT!! when they are done... Ouch Oooh dang who left that down again ???
