Thanks to everyone for the advice on the carbs for my Yamaha 50/4 str., I took them off on Tuesday, cleaned both jets, bowl, replaced the gaskets on both the bowls and the main jets. That seems to have fixed the problem, YES!
I took it out today and w/ no ballast, no mast, top speed (according to my Nuvi GPS) was 19.6 mph. Does this sound like the best I'm going to get?
Also, I've never replaced the plug wires and was wondering if that might help the overall performance. Again, this is a '99 Mac X and '99 Yamaha 50/4 str.
extremely good performance from a 50, I would say ya fixed it. The old adage if it aint broke dont fix it. If the wires seem ok , not cracked or split, the engine is running fine, I wouldnt mess with the wires, although I would, for your next jod tackle doing the water pump, if you never did that yourself before its another self satisfying job once done. You also realize you saved yourself lots of hundred dollar bills doing the carbs yourself right? Wasnt so hard was it?
Good luck and congrats
Mike
Ok, sorry for the delay. The prop is a three fin with the number 9018 on the side. I didn't remove it, so there could be some other marking below the lip that connects to the motor?
