Prop Pitch on 14" prop's???
This has no doubt been discussed a LOT here , but the other day I was perusing the Mac Factory site and saw Rogers own 26 X is up for sale.
It list it as having a Mercury 50 HP Big Foot with a 14X13 prop. Do you think he chose that prop because his boat is most often running bare bones?
Its there by MUCH lighter than what any of us are. I ask this on a rainy day outside Chicago , in contemplation of this winters Adventure and my need to buy a Back up Prop... I am currently running as are many on this board, a 14x10 but to say I am no doubt over weighted is an understatement.
So what do you fellows and a lady or two now....... think?

I run a 14x11 on my X with a Tohatsu TLDI 90. When lightly loaded (a relative term for my boat) I can hit the engine RPM target. I noticed on our recent long trip when we were heavily loaded and I made a WOT run across the lake that I was 300 RPM short of the target. I may try a 14x10 at some point.

I do however really like the prop I have. It is a Tohatsu brand 14x11 and compared to my Solas 14x11 it has a substantially larger blade area which I think is more useful at slow and normal speeds as I rarely use WOT. Perhaps the Solas prop would come closer to the target RPM, I've not tried it as I just carry it as a spare.

On my old 50hp Tohatsu I ran a 12x11.5.

I think any boat that hits the RPM target with a 13 pitch has to be a very light boat.

Don't forget to factor in the final drive ratio of the lower unit.
Just comparing prop size and pitch across make and models of engines is sketchy at best.
I run a 14X11 on a 90 like Duane Dunn; Daydreamerbob runs the same pitch on his 60.
On the surface it seems strange.

The answer might be in the final ratio.
My 90 is 2:1, that is, if engine is 1000 rpm, prop is 500 rpm.
I don't know the Yamaha 60 specifics, but it may be in the order of 2.5:1 or so to swing that bigger prop.

The stock prop on the 60 BigFoot EFI (2.33:1) on our 15 foot Whaler was roughly 14" in diameter and 15" pitch. When loaded up with all the stuff Momma wanted aboard, and the bimini up, it would only turn about 5400 rpm max. I bought a 14" diameter, 13" pitch aluminum Merc prop for it (also painted silver rather than black, indicating the soft "BigFoot" hub). That brought max rpms up to 5800-5900 rpm at 33 mph, which gave it better hole shot and more torque to fight the Lake Erie waves. This is WAY too much pitch for a heavier MacGregor.

the t60 is a "high thrust engine" with a ratio of 2.33. the 14x11 prop i use is designed specifically for the motor.
