We got two of these seats with our Mac 26X when we bought it 2 years ago, but haven't used them. We are unsure of how to use them or where they go ... obviously they are supposed to strap on somewhere ?? :?

Anyone have these and can fill us in? Thanks!

That's interesting. It has the MacGregor name on it, but I've never seen such a thing, especially with the name "MacGregor" on it.

Maybe some other X owners can shed some light.

I bought one of those at a West Marine or somesuch place about 6 years ago. It was called "the amazing seat" It makes a nice seat in the cockpit while sailing.
Those plastic tubes rotate and insert into another tube that makes the back support leg. then you just put it down and sit on it. (The price at $100 was more amazing than the seat, but it is a nice little seat. ) You need to find the back plastic tube that these 2 tubes insert into. There is a sleeve in the back of the seat that is supposed to stow the tube when not in use and the seat can then be folded into a compact arrrangement. Looks for the white plastic U shaped tube thing laying around somewhere.

Someone probably added the macgregor name on it.

craiglaforce - Ok, thanks so much for solving the mystery! Yes, that is exactly what they are! We just didn't get the little "U" frame for the back so I will have to try and find it or make them. I seem to remember the person I bought the boat from stated they were "hiking out" seats ... but I guess he didn't know either and was making them sound good at the time.

Anyway ... Thanks again!

Sure anytime.

I would suggest sending the maker an email and explain that you need the back tubes. Since they still make the seat, should be a simple matter to get new tubes. Even if they charge a few bucks it would be well worth it to be able to use the seats again. When sailing and steering, I sit on the high side usually on the seat. The back of the cockpit is too far back to lean against while steering. These seats are very helpful, even if not a perfect solution.
