I have been following this sight for a long time and finally bought a 2000X this year. Tuesday I finally got out on the water, what a great time, but, of course, there were issues. The PO neglected to give me the sheet blocks, we still sailed, maybe not as well, but still sailed.

My question is how much line is let out for the centerboard to be fully down? Mine did not go out more than a foot or so. Is this about right?

Might be so. Maybe a little more - I haven't really measured. But I replaced the steel-cable centerboard pendant on Bossa Nova with a new cable, which I left long ... with the board all the way up, the eye-splice thimble is lined up with one of the screws on the hatch-rail; with the board all the way down, the thimble is about three screws forward of that.

That's a bummer about the sheet blocks, but they're not hard to replace.

Something else to consider ... I have Kelly-Hanson's Garhauer genoa-track camcleats on the back end of my genoa tracks, and I do all the sail handling from right at the helm. I use the jib-sheet cars on the tracks by the mast for the working jib, and I run the sheets back through two swivel blocks hung on the railings at the front of the cockpit. (I lead the genoa sheets outside the shrouds and directly to the camcleats' bullseyes.) Yes, sometimes I have to luff the jib a little to get it pulled in tight - but that's a small price for having everything right to hand.

Not on my 2000X. There is no cable it is all 5/16 routed thru a hole in the CB and knoted. I have the line marked in full up and full down and half way positions. I don't have the boat handy so I can't measure, but if you do a search you will find the answer - I figure somewhere around 36 inches when full down. If you just let it go uncontrolled you should hear a telltale "thunk".

Can't say about the 00Xs, so maybe I shouldn't be answering. But, FWIW, my 02X uses about 12-14 inches of line to fully lower the centerboard.

Welcome to the Brotherhood. I have 3 figure 8 knots tied in my line, one at the end of the line just in back of the cam cleat when the CB is fully down leaving about a 1foot tail and one just forward of the cam cleat when the CB is fully retracted. The 3rd knot is at the very end of the line and acts as a gripping point to work the line. I don't recall the total length of the line and not all are the same.

When you work the board you might have to relieve the side pressure by luffing up.

Thanks for the information. I'll have to try to drop the centerboard at the dock and listen for the "clunk" and figure it from there. I'll contact the PO to see if he has the blocks.

Wasn't there a post LONG ago (around '02) that listed the amount the CB was extended by the length of CB line paid out? I seem to remember that when I had my first '02 26X. I just dug up my old Mac Tips I copied from back then and I do have the following:

"Center board moves 2.6 times the amount of CB line. Example: extending CB line 8” = 2.6 x 8= 20.8” ( a little less than two feet of board) By marking my CB in 4” sections, I can approximate how many feet of the board are down. I find in a strong wind, using a little less centerboard (pull CB back 3”/ 6” with main only) works best on all points."

Here is picture of the centreboard with an inch scale for your reference. You can see from the pic that the active length of the cb line is about 12 inches at most - which roughly doubles when it pivots

Homework for the night is to calculate the depth of centreboard position as a function of centreboard line deployment using this picture. The centreboard bracket pivots on the hole in the 'indented' part of the board of course, and the board pin goes through the hole on the right in the picture (just below the bracket as shown). Full credit will be given for those ignoring the slight slant between the mount pin and bracket hole.

How do you replace the line going to the centerboard ? With the boat on the trailer my CB can't be dropped. Is there some way of doing without lifting it off the trailer?
On my (new to Me ) boat the line is worn and faded and I would like to replace it.
