Hi,
working on my new/old Mac.25 it's been in storage for 24yrs and the hatch seals rotted away. I need all 3: forward hatch, pop up and cockpit hatch seals. Are all 3 the same stuff? Does anyone know what is the best seal to use and where to get it? I'm sure BWY would have some but if I can get it cheaper that would be great.

I don't know what the old ventures came with if anything, from the factory. My V22 has nothing for seals. I would try the hardware store before a marine store. Look for a closed cell foam.

My '72 V21 has nice white seals around both the forward and laz hatches. If I remember correctly, the forward hatches are the same on the V21 and V25. The seals are no longer any good at keeping water out as they've gotten stiff, but the do still meet enough to keep the bugs out. I don't have a pop-top, but my companionway has trim around it just to finish the fiberglass edge

In any case, I have been trying to keep the rain out and am planning a trip to a local RV store to see what types of weather stripping they have. The pop-up vents on the tops of RVs have the same problems with wind and rain right? (okay ... an RV'er probably hopes they never have a wave over the bow).

I have a 222, and replaced all my hatch seals including the pop top with hatch seals I purchased from Cabela's. They worked great.

Seals? We don't need no stinking seals! :D

I had a 1983 Mac 25 and it had no seals, and as far as I know it never did. I do not recall seeing any residue of a seal around any of the hatches, nor do I believe it needed them. The way they are made, with the recessed area, all water ran away from the hatch openings without getting into the cabin. So... perhaps there never were any seals. Maybe call the factory and ask?

Thanks everone. My boat did have seals as parts of them are still there. Maybe they were put on aftermarket, I'm not sure yet.

We replace all our hatch seals using pipe insulation cut in half. The foam is closed celled so it will not soak up water. All hardware stores have the foam pipe insulation and it is easily cut lengthwise in half. Napa Auto contact cement worked fine and they are in good shape after 5 years.

Thanks Guys for all the info. I'm getting closer to being ready to put my boat in the water for the first time in 25 years. I got the Honda 7.5 running on the 2nd pull after 25 yrs in storage that must say something about the Hondas. Not only did it run but it runs like new. Now I need to learn how to use the mast lowering system and I'm ready for the water.
