Just purchased the Boom Kicker off this site's "Online Catalog". Easy ordering process and Super quick delivery!
Anyone have experience installing the Boom Kicker? Do I follow the instructions to the letter or are there any secrets I need to know before I start installing?

The measurements I recieved didn't work for me. I had to cut the rods. Quick and easy to do with a hacksaw. Took about an hour to install and works great.

I never needed to cut the rods on mine when I installed it on my 1998 26X. There are instructions here on this site that Heath posted (see
HERE). His measurements were really close for mine.. only needed a slight modification of an inch or so.

Yes, Heath's instructions worked well for me too... I think I may have deviated slightly from his boom mounting location, but not much.
Only took 15 minutes or so to install.

I didn't need to cut any rods. I'd move the brackets before I'd cut the rods. I just measured mine, The front of my bracket is 21-1/16" from the end of the boom while Heath shows 21-1/2" in his picture. Because you can adjust the mast fitting up and down the difference isn't real critical.
Remember you want the bracket to be closer to the end than just where it holds the boom horizontal. It should take some vang to bend the rods to get down to horizontal. You want to be able to slack the vang and have the boom lift up at an angle.
Also think about changing the clevis pin at the mast to a ball quick pin. It makes installing the boomkicker much quicker when you don't have to mess with a ring ding.

Checked out the photos on the "Mac Mods Page" and the "Online Catalog". One shows the Boom Kicker with a bow in it the other without. Which is the correct way?

As Duane pointed out, it needs to be installed so there is some bend in the rods when the boom is horizontal. In other words, if you released the mainsheet and the vang, the rods would push the boom at a slightly upward angle.

Thanks guys! Will try to install this weekend. Plan on hitting the James River on Sunday down by the Moth Ball Fleet. Hopefully it does not look like the Colorodo River Rapids as it did last weekend as a result of the huricane run-off.

Hello,
I purchased a BookKicker Model 500 back in December when they were on sale. The box has sat in my garage for the past 4 months. I went to look for the installation instructions and can't find them. I tried to click on the link above, however, that link is no longer working. Can anyone tell me where I can get instructions for installing the Model 500 on my 1990 26S? Thanks!!
Brad

You might want to go to the source at:

Although it looks like your link was copied from the manufacturer's

Installation was quick. Rather than cutting the rods, mount the mast bottom portion first, get everything in place, put the boom plate on, and figure out where the plate ought to go for your boat.
