As bad as I hate to. It may be time for me to let her go. How does a person go about finding out what an 07 with a Yamaha 60 is worth? I just don’t get to use her enough and the current economic situation is beginning to worry me. In over two years I’ve only had time to put her in the water a handful of times. I’m just not sure how much to ask. Is there a Kelly Blue Boat Value?

Look in the classifieds here...It will give you an idea.

A broker asked me if he could put SEAHORSE on display for a couple of weeks, while all his other stock was power boats...and within that time, two firm offers were made...As the price offered was acceptable, I decided to sell...and SEAHORSE WAS GONE...
An experiment that resulted in a sale....no desperation or even much haggling...

Try sticking her in a power boat yard...and she will STAND OUT.

Give it some time to assess why you're not using it? I went through the same thing last year, since I have three kids going to college soon, and could really use the dough. The urge to give-up on her eventually passed, and now I'm excited about sailing my M again. I'm sure the notion to sell will come and go, but I'm not going to be hasty - I'd be bummed if I sold it, then wanted her back .

I think you will have to take at least one BOAT buck off the asking price due to the slow blue hull...

I could be wrong, but I'm guessing the market isn't very good right now.

Yea... think about this. It's hard to undo once it's gone.
Figure out why you haven't taken her out more.

Mark - My 2002 has turned into a 5 week a year boat for me - three trips to Cuttyhunk for 7-10 days in summer, plus 2 trips down Hudson or Erie Canal.

Occasionally Ill sneak in another week to Lake Ontario if weather permits.

- but I wouldnt trade the week on C'hunk with the tweens for anything. Once they are gone in 4 years, we will refit the boat for cruising for just the two of us. Since I store in the driveway, my fixed costs are almost nil.

Our usage varies year to year. The first year was every weekend we weren't working but after that it depended on the kids schedules as well as balancing it against camping, dirt bike riding etc. Now that the kids are on their own we try to get one long San Juan cruise and then some weekends on the Columbia here and there every year. We too keep the Otter on the trailer and it has long since been paid for. Even though some years it didn't see much use because we chartered with friends or other issues, it is the only toy we have left from our former life and would never think of selling it. One year it stayed under the tarp because my wife had surgery that summer but things got better and we were back on the water the next spring. I'll have to do a "cost per sailing day" calculation to put it all in perspective someday. I think chartering will win that one.

Thanks Guys! I feel a good bit better today. Don’t know what got into me… . Slow at work… three teenage boys eating me out of house and boat…Bad back that really cramps my lifestyle…An Admiral that is highly allergic to boats… Oh well, I cant say I wont end up selling it but it will be of last resort.

I just wasn’t sure really how to go about determining a value. I am in the car biz and we have books to reference and I thought there might be something similar for boats. Moderator please delete this post if out of line.

NADA has a publication for used boats. You can call up your local bank, or credit union and get a value that they will loan on. Accessories and upgrades are subjective and will either increase, or decrease value.

You are not alone..

I was starting to lose interest in Sailing and got tired of the hassle of trailering and set-up. I did not want to pay full price to keep my boat in a marina and apply antifouling paint.

Then I discovered a Marina at Lake Erie, that had a few extra docks, and I keep my boat there in transient dock space. Its $36.00 a day, but if you commit for at least 30 days its $270.00 a month and $9.00 per day after that. I use my boat every weekend while in transient dock. I spent 2 months there this August & Sept. If the family or friends have other plans it just so simple to take the boat out by myself. Cant do that trailering..

There are about 250 boats in the Marina. I would guess that 80% of the boats are rarely used.. Unless its a hot sunny day, 95% of the boats are not used.

There is a storage area close by the lake. I notice that most of those boats just sit there all year. a few with for sale signs..

On the other hand, they say the two best days of a boat owners life are the day he buys his boat and the day he sells it.

There are a few ex-Mac owners here who seem sad they are Mac-less though.
