How did you find your boat?

I think there's at least a few of us that are trying, unfortunately, to sell our boats. I am wondering where you guys, that didn't buy em straight from the factory, found em!? I have mine on craigslist in my area and have had just few calls over the past month or so. I think it's WAY underpriced and am bummed that it hasn't moved. Do you guys have any suggestions? I've considered boat trader and ebay, thoughts? Perhaps I have it overpriced, perhaps I love the little fella so much that the people who called weren't good enough!?

Please let me know what you experts think!?

Moderators please delete ASAP if this is out of line, I love this site

*on edit, anyone had luck from this site, seems expensive but it may be worth it!!?

I bought my used one at the closest Macgregor dealer I could find. He advertised it and took a percentage on the take, I did the financial part of it with the owner after checking with his bank and the Coast Guard ! I figured that an established MacGregor dealer would not risk his reputation by selling a bad boat(I was right). There was little bargaining room ( It came with a full enclosure & a bunch of extras) and I took it all.

Bought from a dealer but looked at several others from, Sailboatowners.com, Sailing Texas as well as the ones advertised here. There are a lot of places to advertise. I would think you best bang for the buck is to advertise with the sailing community as above. Best of Luck!

I finally bought from a dealer (new) since I was new to large (!) sailboats and didn't feel qualified to shop for a used one. I did use sailboattrader alot just to see what types of boats were out there in my price range, but when I found Roger's web site I was hooked by the M.

Good luck, don't feel too bad, the economy isn't what it used to be these days. If you end up keeping her, you can always try again when things turn around.

I bought my boat, indirectly, from Bill at Boats4sail. I went to his shop in August, looking to buy a new boat just before the end of the year. He called me a short time later with a possible lead on a little-used used boat in Door County, Wisconsin, a boat he sold new 2 years before. His attitude was that of helping his customers, not of making a big commission.
When I sold my old San Juan 21, I sold it by listing it on the San Juan 21 owners' website. I tried an internet boat sales site from out East, but got no calls from it and wasted too much $$$ listing it there.
Bottom line: List your boat at the site the prospects are looking at for information and feedback.

I bought mine through Craigslist...but I had to search outside my immediate area. Try expanding your Craigslist ...ing area.
Good luck.

I bought mine off ebay. It came with many extras not even listed. It was abandoned at a marina and they just wanted it gone so they could get income from the slip. Had lots of sea critters living on the bottom and no trailer; but what can you expect for $710.?

I posted a "Boat Wanted" add here on this site. It was answered within a couple months, and was a successful purchase.

Bought mine from an ad on this board. But was calling on a few I saw on Yachtworld I think. It was nearly 4 years ago...memory is fuzzy...who am I :?: :?

You know what they say...your memory is the second thing to go...

Cheers,
Jim

The purchase was from an ad here at the Classifieds as well, but I had looked at quite a few online sites.

FWIW:
The previous owner stated it was on for only a week or so, and since it's asking price matched what would have been my offer price anyway....I owned it the following week.
All things being equal, I was a serious buyer matched up by providence to a serious seller.

My experience after buying, selling, buying, selling, and buying (seriously done with this loop!!)...it always seems to have been about the timing.

Finally, for me selling is harder on my soul than buying!!
