I am talking with a guy selling a Johnson 15 that he sais has a 15" shaft. I have a drop down motor mount on the transom. Do you guys think this will work well? Should I wait for a long shaft? Outboards are retarted expensive as well!

I think the transom is too high on the V21 for a shaft that short. If you get into any kind of chop, the motor will cavitate (not a good thing). You can try positioning the motor mount as low as it will go, while leaving you room to handle the controls, then measure how far below the water line the prop will be. That might give you enough depth. I'd rather wait for a longer shaft than go through all that.

Yea I was afraid of that. I think you are right. I wonder where some good places to look for good used engines is. Craigslist isn't working that well at the moment.

Well today was a good day. I bought a 12' aluminum v hull boat with trailer, a sears Ted Williams outboard 7.5hp, a huge trolling motor with a ultra long shaft and a chief 5hp motor for 395$ ! Just when I thought there were no deals on stuff anymore . The bad economy is my good buy. I still want to check that site out that you linked though.

Fresh water only for those motors, methinks....
