As I was taking down my Furling sail for cleaning, I discovered the outer plastic has broken. Luckily there is a separate single core line embedded within to keep the Furler from flat out breaking in two and the mast dropping down forward. It's broken about 2 feet from the bottom.

How can I fix it? Where is the best place to purchase / fix? I leave in the Bay area. Any info appreciated

Do you have the CDi furler (pre 2008) or the Mac furler (2008 on?)

Call up Tom at CDI and he will send you a new furler coiled up - follow the instructions on uncoiling it carefully.

The forestay runs up the plastic extrusion, holding the mast up - you will have to undo the turnbuckle to put your old forestay on the new furler. Inspect all that hardware carefully and replace if corrosion is evident.

There is a cable inside the furler which is what actually holds the mast up, so don't worry about a dismasting, even if the furler was to break completely. CDI is quite good about replacement. Give them a call. http://sailcdi.com

Looks like the CDI extrusion. Note the forestay (SS wire) in the plastic - that holds the mast up of course. If you can get the sail into the luff groove, you may be able to just tape that and still use it.

That looks similar to mine (except for the break). The line is actually a halyard used to raise the jib on the track. As mentioned above, the forestay cable is inside and is what bears the load.
You will need to ID the manufacturer in order to find a replacement.

Stephen, come on! That thing is toast! Once the jib loads up it will rip the tape and teh foil right out.

If you could dremel away the damaged region, and epoxy (?) two flat pieces onto the sides to support, the load on the luff would be perpendicular to the damage and would not break it again, imho.

That being said, I would call Tom and replace it on a time to repair basis...and for SF Bay sailors and the afternoon 'breeze' - that would be advisable...
