and a big thanks to Madguy for the info he gave us. Some of his ideas sure helped. I especially like the straps around the front vs. having to put on and take off something else up there. I hope soon to have more specific pictures on the web site as to how the sailpack was made.

I really want to know how the anchor sail works in practice as I've really been scratching my head coming up with ways to make restless calm down on a hook.

Drop a mushroom anchor off the back - adjust rode until it drags...works like a charm..

I tried a small drogue.. it got wrapped around my transducers and was generally plain offputting. Besides, it seems to be windage that swings flat arsed macs about more than current. I'm happy to be corrected as all I want is tranquility!

Hey guys Ruth is getting a big head , but that is ok she deserves it and yes after a couple bad relationships for both of us we are well aware what we now have and are thoroughly enjoying each other .

On the anchor sail we won't know the results for a couple months, but I'll try and remember to post how it works for us. Catigale are you saying you set a stern anchor up so that it drags some on purpose? If so what kind of bottom are you doing that on.

I'll never put down a stern anchor or stern shore line again along with a bow anchor or line unless I'm darn sure there won't be much wind at night or that it won't change direction. We have gotten into some problems a couple times now with the boat secured at the bow and stern at the same time and had a wind shift come in on the beam and really put a strain on things. Had one line explode like that which then led to my accident trying to get out of that mess. I guess the mushroom wouldn't ever exert that kind of stress.

Yea, read about your problems with those stern lines. Yikes!

For the reasons mentioned, I haven't used stern lines. Wind rarely stays in the same direction for long. The mush anchor is a clever idea. Might have to try that if I still have that mush anchor someplace. Others have secured the anchor further back towards the mast to change the angle so the boat doesn't "sail".

Also....has Ruth ever considered making a setup like that for an "M"

Mushroom Anchor

I put a stern cleat down low on the transom which is useful for a dinghy attach point on anchor as well as the drag line for the mushroom.

The mushroom slows the rate of dragging and the swing by about 2/3 in a typical 15 kt breeze on anchor imhe.

I told her the other day that people would pay for her work. Her answer was, "I worked for 35 years (Boeing) and now the projects are just for us".

I will hopefully soon have a lot more pictures up showing how it was constructed and someone could duplicate it. I've got 51 pictures edited with 25 to go. Might finish tonight with that part. I'll post when I've added it to the web site.

I'm not sure what the X/M sail's sizes are compared to the S, but if similar and you can get the......



......... slugs down on the boom like we can now with the ....
