I have dedicated Tool kits! They Never leave the boat.. They include a Multi Meter. How I loaded the boat for My Trip is NOT how she is loaded when shes in the Marina..
I will leave room now , for others to add what they think is important to have on board all the time.. For? Just In Case Situations ..
This list Might, be insightful for New Sailors??

A complete dedicated tool kit including....spanners,sockets,screwdrivers,hacksaw,snips,lubricants ie silicone, lanoline, sail repair kit c/w needles etc and adhesive patches,a complement of various SS bits...shackles,bolts,screws etc,Hitachi 18v angle grinder and drill/impactdriver.Multimeter as previously mentioned and to compliment a range of globes.A handheld radio over and above the fitted one and an EPRIB....which is a requirement if going more than 2 miles offshore in Australia....even if only bay sailing or behind the reef. Not sure of the rules elsewhere in the world but we have to register our boat and depending on which state also have to have a licence.....unfortunately rules in our great land are set by states not federal so vary.
Knowing where you are so a GPS (and electronic charts) and the relevant paper maps with probably a handheld gps as backup.
As we are setting our boat up for more extended cruising and not just daysailing we also carry 3 anchors and ropes, spare water.
Fitting 2 bilge pumps and a manual one....to be sure to be sure
A dynamo torch not reliant on batteries on top of the usual spare batteries for torches
And last but not least ammunition for the small deckgun to ward off jetskis.......these annoying ,noisy, smelly wave making things seem to spring up everywhere and seem to not adhere to any rules of the water.......but thats another thread completely
I am with you too On My Trip.. I had 4 quarts of Jerry Sailor Rum and no less than a dozen bottles of wine and a case of beer.. Just for me ... I was alone I had sooooooo much stuff.... I could have opened a Marine repair shop hahaha... Though I never needed much of any of it I think I will add an Xrta prop and nut..I filled the forward dinette seat storage with My Stuff
