Starter solenoid

Hi, Our starter solenoid is sticking after starting, getting fed up of lifting the engine cover and tapping the solenoid with the winch handle...... had a look online and only found one company in the UK that quoted £115 +vat, seems steep for a relay, the US list them at $60 but they don't ship outside the USA.

Does anyone know of a good UK Mercury dealer / Canada Mercury dealer (Got a friend in Canada )or can anyone advise a similar replacement from another manufacturer, the part no is 825096T01 for mercury.

Unless I'm missing something the solenoid is just a low voltage low amp coil that energizes a plunger to make contact with a low voltage high amp starter current, as long as it is rated for the switched current it should work right .

Dido you are basically correct . Allow me to ask , is your solenoid a stand alone / separate unit? If so ? No reason not to substitute. Your cars are Sooooooooo much different than ours I am not sure whats available to you??
This is a link to Solenoids at Napa and in the middle of the page any that would fit would work..http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Result ... 28+2028016

Try Sierra Marine they do replacement parts for mercury outboards etc.
I have changed my solenoid for my mercury 50 hp (year 2000) bigfoot carb version and my local outboard parts supplier gave me a unit which fits also to a Yamaha 50hp which share the same engine as my mercury ob.
I hope this helps.

The Seloc outboard manual I have covers both Mercury and Yamaha so it makes sence that a Yamaha one would fit, what model engine is your yamaha ?

The unit is stand alone and i'm thinking as long as I can mount it so it is secure then any brand should do.

thanks
