Howdy and welcome to spring...at least for today.

Does anyone have a factory manual for a 1999x? I got the earlier one off this site but think there may be some differences between that version and the 99. If you have one and can trust me for a week I could make a pdf and get it posted...well I know I could do the pdf part anyway.

If you drop the table to make a sleeping area where do the right cushions come from to make the bed...I'm not very good at puzzles.

The ballast vent has a funky non fitting plug....what is the correct plug for this critical job??

Where is the bilge pump (usually) and is there a manual drain of the bilge when on a trailer?

Anyone got a good drawing for a shore power and dual battery set up?

...or can point me to the answers to any of these questions.

Can't help with the manual, but the bilge questions answer is a sponge and bucket!!! there is no bilge pump or drain..There are at least 3 different areas to soak up,,,,under the cooler box, under the sink or battery box and under the rear berth cushions there are some cover plates where you should soak it up.....if you are getting very much water in any of these areas check for leaks from above as there should not be much unless your boat sweats a lot or the cabin is left open during a rain....bob

I picked up the Flip Lock Drain Plug, Brass, 1" from West Marine, it was too small, so I'm going to take it back and get the next bigger one, Flip Lock Drain Plug, Brass, 1-1/4", should be just right at least for an (was also what I used on the 26D)

I just got one from the WM in Woodbridge. The 1" was too small. The 1.25" fits but not as well as my old one...the flip handle rusted/broke off. The new one doesn't have the taper.

But it does work.

I have a 2000X. I believe it is the same as a 1999X and the manual is the same as the 2002 manual posted on this website.

I have a 99 X.

The best cushion for the table is the back port cushion. My admiral made a cushion to go on it plus using one of the two seat back cushions.

I did the mod for the auto fill ballast that is here on this site... works great... no plug needed.


I added a bilge pump under the cooler insert that feeds to the bathroom thu-hull.

I just use the standard red rotating switch on both batteries.

Thank you all for the quick and clear answers to my questions...I know they have been asked and replied to before so I appreciate the lack of eye rolling at the newbie.

I should have the registration numbers back some time next week and the engine tuned up after supposedly only running 8 hours in its lifetime....I'm hopeful even though I know an unused engine can be as screwed up as an abused one...and then I can get out on the water for some fun.

Thanks Jim! You saved me a trip to WM, BWY has the "correct plug" just search for "H212-1VO -- PLUG, BALLAST VENT" and it's only $3.50, even if shipping is $5 I'll be better off.

We purchased our 99X with very "LOW" hours on the engine also (a Nissan 50 hp with carbs). The engine ran very bad, due to sitting up, causing fuel clogging issues in the carbs. Anyway, a marine dealer cleaned the carbs., and no problems since. Starts, runs, idles, etc real well.

i've put an "in line" fuel filter on the fuel tank hose, and frequetly add a little "Lucas" fuel additive --

Sounds like you found a "RARE" engine such such low hours.

I think it was overall rare...the plastic was still on the stove cover, the water bottles are still in the packaging, head has never been used, they never spent a night aboard, a little musty but no mildew, the mast an rigging are brand new never used (they hit a power line while on the trailer and had all replaced at BWY in Seattle) and the latest tag is 07 ...overall I can't complain.

But...I doubt I will ever get the tires off the trailer...some serious rust goin on...the bearings made the 200 miles home with no overheating (I use an infrared thermometer every time I stop to keep an eye on them)

Crack the lug nuts, the get the trailer up on jack stands (one at a time) , lug nuts off, and then kick the tires off and the deed will be done..

Congrats on a "rare find"...these "finds" dont happen too often !

Suggestion: repack wheel bearings, ASAP. But, first, jack-up the trailer, spin the wheels and listen for any "grinding" sounds. If so, replace the bearings.
And dont make my mistake >>>> MY once FAILURE to torque the lugs properly, and watching the starboard side wheel shear off all lugs at 55 MPH. That's not fun.

May I ask where in the line is it most practical to install the "in line" fuel filter you mentioned? Before or afer the manual pump bulb? Does it matter?

Regarding the cushions "puzzle", my wife and I have opted for a nice single sized air mattress for the main bed over the lowered table, just putting standard boat cushions and those simple orange PFD's under it. That leaves cushions for where you need them for sitting. Usually, for extended cruises, we just leave the bunk/mattress set up and take our meals on a fold down table in the cockpit. View is better up there anyway, and the bunk is already set up for "Cleopatra's" afternoon naps. "Happy wife, happy boat owner!" is my formula! Good luck, I know you'll enjoy the X as soon as you figure out some of her idiosyncrasies and get her set up the way you like.
