I have an oversized steering wheel on my 26m. The cover I had on it didnt fit right and finally blew away in a strong wind.

Does anyone know of a pattern to make a pedestal cover? Or have any ideas how to make a cover that covers the wheel and pedestal? thanx

Are there any sewing stores near you? If there are, they should be able to help you with a pattern if you show them a photo and some measurements. Also, a sail loft could be a solution.

I'm curious, what size is oversize?

Many of us here (he says as he raises his hand) use BBQ covers for this purpose. I picked up one at Big Lots about a year ago for $5. Who cares if it says Weber?

Kits from sailrite come with everything you need minus sewing machine and scissors.
The "how to" dvd is very detailed, showing how to pattern, sew in zippers/shock cords and other useful tips. I'm handy with a sewing machine, but certianly no pro. The 26X pedastal is fairly complicated, with motor controls and pedastal guard/table, but considering it was my first attempt, I'm pleased with the results. My neighbor was very impressed

If you have the 26M withe the pod mounted on a SS post (not the tommy toothbrush style) you can use a Sterns 50HP+ outboard engine cover. They are made of a canvas type material and are waterproof, plus they come in a slightly lighter than pacific blue color to match the blue hull. And they fit! I got mine from Bass Pro Shop for about $20.00

I use a very large duffel bag from a surplus store. Inside that I have a garden size trash bag, I leave the bottom open for ventilation. It cost $20 and has lasted 4 years. When I take it off I use it to hold all the items I use for trailering.

I followed Terry's advice a while back and got the engine cover. Works great. Covers my chart plotter and my 18" wheel.
And it matches my other canvas. So yes, my canvas is slow...but the boat is fast white...
Thanks Terry.
Cheers,
Jim

Ditto on that. It works well. I bungee cord the bottom of the cover around the pedestal post.

Engine Cover from Bass Pro Shops...on sale for less than $12.00. The one that fits 2-stroke up to 50 HP. Pretty sure it would easily cover even a 20" wheel.
