26X fuel tanks

My 1997 26X came with two 6 gallon fuel tanks - one on each side of the cockpit.
Is there a larger size fuel tank that will fit - without any cockpit modifications?

My

two 12 gallon tanks. It's enough fuel to last the entire summer for me. They came with the boat, but I'm pretty sure they're the Moeller 12 gallon low profile tanks from West Marine. I don't know if the fuel lockers are the same size however. Perhaps someone with an

knows?

Thank you - the web site search function wasn't working earlier - now it is.
Thinking of going with the Neptune 6-gallon tanks.
Any input is deeply appreciated.

Funny you should bring this up now. I just happened to watch the X promotional video that I got before buying our X yesterday. In that video, it states the X comes with two NINE gallon tanks. Mine came with six gallon tanks. Did anyone get nine gallon tanks? What are they?
Thanks

I have a 75 litre tank in sb side of the bed under cockpit - i dont need more than a normal bedsize around 1,5 meter wide and i need the the space in cockpit for all other kind off stuff & tinghs than tanks .... And the weigth in bottom is better for balancing the boat - and it is space for several heavy batteries too beside the tank or in the rear end of bed ....

A search should provide lots of info on this topic. I have a pair of 12 gallon Tempo tanks in my fuel lockers. They fit without modification, however, I did have to cut holes in the cockpit seats to provide access for filling the tanks. I installed a pair of those round access covers, and it has worked out fine. Only problem is that the Tempo 12 gallon tanks are apparently no longer available. There may be other 12 gallon options out there. You should find several posts by guys, such as Duane Dunn, who prefer using 4 six gallon tanks. They fit fine in the lockers, and are small enough to tote when full. 12 gallons of fuel is way too heavy to carry.

Hello,
Moeller now makes a Copy of the Tempo LPT12 tank. I saw one at West marine a week ago. Price is up, however, because of new federal regulations about permeation and evaporative loss. It's just a hair smaller than the Tempo, so it slides right in.

OMC makes a 6 gallon tank that fits into the locker easily, with very little cutting. You can put two in per side for a total of 4 tanks and 24 gallons. The best part of me is that they are easy to handle, and you can adjust your fuel load for your trip. To switch between them, I wait until the engine starts to motor down, and then with idle thrust, I can switch before the motor dies.

many X owners, including me, use 4 of these in their existing, non-modified cockpit lockers.
this way, if needed, you'll get a full 24 gallons of fuel. and, when you need to "re-load", they can be easily removed from locker and transported to the local gas station to save $$$ vs purchasing expensive fuel at the marina.
also, if you only need 12 gallons for a short day trip, you can remove two tanks and use locker space for storage.
