hole in sail

Hi everyone,
I have a tiny hole in my genoa, that somehow got rubbed in, either by trailering, or just by furling it in. My question is, can I just patch it with one of the patch kits I can buy online, that are just glued on, or should I just go to a sail loft, and have it done. Obviously I would be paying a lot more at the loft.
Do I need to fix it at all, since it is so small?
I just want to know what you guys think. Thanks

The hole is about 1/8 of an inch.

I'd just get one of these glue on sail patches & u can always stitch it to if yer wanted

I use this. Held for an entire season until I repaired my sail. Seems like it could have held forever,

I used the same thing as Bertrand (Q1) and I used my sails 250+ times a year. Available at a slightly higher price at West Marine (WM).

Out of curiosity, did you put the tape on both sides of the hole, or just one? I've got a few holes in my sail that need fixing before I can afford new sails.

When you use the tape, don't be stingy. Be certain to apply the tape to an area much larger than the hole.

True. I found this tape to be really good. Christian, if you apply it to both sides with plenty on both sides of the hole (and 1/8" isn't too big) you may be fine for a very long time. I'm not convinced you will need to have it professionally repaired.

Thanks everyone. I think I will go with the tape for now. I tried to email Doyle sails in Chicago yesterday. I asked how much it would be to get patched. Haven't heard back yet. I'll let you know what they say.

http://www.sailrite.com/. In additioon to having a wide variety of supplies for making repairs, they have alot of information available - some of it downloadable for free. I have also found them real helpful on the phone. We used one of thier kits to make a sail for a smaller boat I built.
