New boat

I am going to look at a Macgregor 22 tomorrow. I have never sailed a day in my life, so I am not sure where I caught the sailing bug, but I've got it pretty bad. I've learned quite a bit looking around this forum. Thanks for the helpful info. If things work out, and the Lord be willing, I'll post a picture of the new boat soon.

Thats what i did. Best of luck to you. I'd recommend going out with someone or getting a lesson to get a feel for the boat. I read everything i could then got out and took it from there.

Welcome aboard. Sailing is many things to many people. Good luck on the new boat.

I can't seem to get a picture posted, but I bought the boat. She needs some cleaning up and a bit of work, but that is why I could afford it. Let the adventure begin!

Cleaning it up and making it yours if 1/2 the fun.

Find a picture host like Photobucket.com and upload the picture. They have a "[img]" copy function, then just paste it into a message.

I am located in the "thumb" of Michigan. Port Huron is not too far away for a place to sail, and Saginaw Bay is just a bit farther. If anyone is nearby I'd be willing to negotiate the terms of a lesson or two when I get to that point.
I think I can figure out posting pictures tomorrow from my desktop at work. I'm being outsmarted by my smart phone right now.

You currently are at 3 posts. Photo posting ability kicks in after you've made 10 posts. Search the FAQs & archives for 'photo posting' how to, as it has been covered ad nauseum.

You can add your location and boat type to your profile too (hint, hint)

OK, I will have to leave it at the avitar for now.

My first projects will be replacing the wood trim around the top hatch, cleaning up the interior, and checking and or replacing the wiring and lighting. I will need to find a small outboard before I put her in the water, but I should be able to get out without too much work.
For the longer term, I plan to rebuild the rudder, and redo most of the interior. The rudder appears functional, but definately worn, and nearing the end of its useful life. The interior isn't "nasty" but is worn and tired.
When I went to look at the boat, I thought it only had a main and a jib, so I was pleased to see it also has a spinaker, and an extra jib (or two, now I can't remember). All of the sails appear (to my completely untrained eye) to be in good shape. I think being a Michigan boat (with our 8 months of winter) it wasn't sailed a great deal, although I guess one never really knows what happened over the past almost 40 years.
Happy sailing to everyone. I'll be back soon with lots of questions.

I'll try to make some halfway intelligent posts so I can get up to 10, and keep pictures of the cleanup and restoration effort posted.
