Radar reflector

I got caught out in sea fog last year so decided to buy a radar reflector. I chose (purly for stowage reasons) a twin diamond set up that slots together. I thought of placing a pulley on the spreader bars and hoist it up when needed. Are these reflectors 100% effective and where is the best place to raise it. How do i test it?.

I sail in some of the most crowded waters in the world and i like to think once it's up, i can be seen.

Corner reflectors have good coverage, but also have some pretty deep nulls. Using a pair of them reduces the probability that you'd reflect nothing back to a source. See this thread for more info and some good links to real world tests.

In Spain it's obligatory for all the fiber boats. I have one cylindrical because it's the one that less occupies, but is not the best one. Whatever more surface has, better works. I take it hung of backstay

Are most of the radars in use in that area S Band or X band??

The small davis corner reflector is suffcient to reflect for X band sets.... but as Moe pointed it out is marginal for an S band....

Radar Flags?

I don't own one of these.. but ran across this a while back and bookmarked it.

It's a radar reflective flag. Seemed logical enough to me, if I'm going to fly a flag, and a radar reflector, why not one that does double-duty?

Are these any good? The price didn't seem too bad considering what these items cost separately.

Thanks Moe
