Bad storm came through this weekend. Baby stay came loose and mast was bent in half. (and then neatly folded over the boat) I have a call in to BW Yachts for a replacement, but I see from their site that Macgregor changed the design in 2007. I have a 2007, but I'm not sure if I have the old or new mast design and thus I don't know if the hardware will transfer.

Does anyone have pictures of the new design. (sail slot on side?)

I am pretty sure that 2007 boats got the newer mast... and that is the own that I would put on if I had the unfortunate task of having to replace mine. Here is probably the easiest non-technical way to tell if you have the older or newer mast. Take of the mast cap (white fiberglass part at the top), look down the mast if there is a foam plug (floatation foam) blocking your view down the mast, then you have the older larger mast section. The other way to tell is I think all the newer mast have the side cut out for feeding in the sail, the old mast have a bent section in the trailing edge of the extrusion which flairs open to allow the boat rope to be fed. If you do need to switch, I think you only need to purchase a new cap and base - that will run you about 50 bucks extra.

I'm curious as to how your mast fell. The baby stays don't hold it up of course. Something else happened here IMHO.

Contact Blue Water Marine in Seattle. They can tell you what cross section the extrusion is.

"baby stay"? What's a "baby stay"? Never heard that term. Do you mean the lower "shroud?" I was also puzzled by u12fly's discussion about the change in the mast and the reference to "the boat rope needing to be fed". Don't we all have slugs that feed into the mast and attach the main? . . . Just trying to get better understanding. Thanks.

The baby stays attach to the forward stanchions and six feet up at the mast raising hound. Their only purpose is to prevent the mast from moving side to side as it is raised and lowered.

The stock M does not come with slugs in the main, it comes with a bolt rope main.

It kind of looks like forestay is not connected

I'd say thats a forestay failure of some sort @ first glance a jib halyard attached to the bowpulpit or anchor roller would have prevented this if thats indeed what happened !!
