Steering Adjustment
Having a close look at the steering on my 1998
I have found that when the rudders reach the maximum point of turn, the outboard still has a good bit more available turn. I had noticed (especially when motoring astern) turning Starboard was less effective than turning port, but I can see now that the engine still has quite a bit more turn available on that side. Is there any way to adjust this to get more outboard turn both ways (I see there are two more holes on the rudder brackets, currently it is on the hole furthest from the rudder pivot points).

Re: Steering Adjustment
you're right there. With major fiddles you can get quite a lot more swing on the engine, which can be handy. However when lifted you will need to be able to hang the engine drag link on a peg as it makes the steering (mine is hydraulic to boot) heavy.
Here is the mods page which broaches the topic. http://www.ironengineer.com/mac/steering/steering.html

Re: Steering Adjustment
Had a look at your site, Awesome!!!! Not sure I have all those skills or patience.
At the moment I am more interested in motoring, and have removed the rudders, but because of where the Teleflex cable comes through I cannot attach it direct to the motor, and still have the 'metalwork spaghetti' installed, I would like to get rid of it (it's a trip hazard) and find something a bit more elegant and functional that would later allow the rudders back on, but still allow full turning of the motor..

Re: Steering Adjustment
on my 96X I could put the teleflex straight onto the engine, completely by-passing the rudders. On these earlier boats the steering tube came out pretty close to the transom. Later they moved it forward (which I have also now done as well). It got me out of trouble when the rudders were not working... got home on engine alone

Yea, that's how mine is, too far forward to link direct to the engine, think I will need a new Teleflex cable to bring it out in line with the engine, any idea how long the stock one is, I guess I will need one about 2-3 feet longer. Should be able to do a simple straight bar to the rudders when I put them back on....
