TRailer Bunks Versus Beds...

I will not stir the pot for trailers themselves BUT...I am having an Electric Boat Lift Installed..Is there any Structural Reason, why I should try to convert Bunks to beds ?? Bunks running parallel with the hull centerline would allow me to interchange the 26' Mac with my 23' Striker Walk Around is why I am asking..
What are your thoughts of adding beds to the bunks for centering purposes for the Mac?? I wont need those for the Striker..

Where I slip my boat they have two wide sling straps that go under the boat abeam and lift it from the mid stantions and forward stantions area of the hull then the whole boat is carried in the air down some rails and then set gently in the water. The V-bunks abeam make this a very simple process whereas the longitudinal bunks would prevent it. Nice to have V-bunks I would think, and many marinas have this set-up for moving boats around on the hard.

does not really matter it's not going to be bumping & jumping around like it would be if it were on a trl going down a bad hiway

I put my M26 on a bunk lift all the time and switch between the Mac and my ski boat. No problems. You might need to adjust the width between the Mac and your walk around, but other than that I can't think of any other issues.

This is good news... I couldnt imagine not being able to support it with long bunks , but I Figured I should ask first...

I'm still trying to figure out how to put a dinghy on my :macx: trailer let alone another boat

The biggest problem I've found with longitudinal bunks is that it's hard to get the boat centered correctly, but that may not be as much of a problem with a lift as with a trailer. The boat just sits there on a lift, while it bounces down the road on a trailer, and it's (I suspect) easier to center the boat on a lift than it is on a trailer, by yourself, while pulling up a ramp.

I know a fellow who sports a "Smart" car on his X trailer (custom X trailer).

It rides in front of the boat, sideways and can be backed down ramps on one side, without removing the boat. The boat can also be launched/recovered with the car in place..... or not.

The long bunks will work on any boat and they actually support the boat better than V blocks because the weight on the long bunks are over a larger area. On the V blocks all the weight of the boat is sitting on only three points if you have only three V blocks. And, with V blocks the blocks must be custom for your hull and are not going to work on other boats.

The long bunks work on just about anything and really protect any boat from bumpy roads. Lot less stress on the hull. I have had several boats with long bunks - they are great going down the road - where they suck is launching and retrieving the boat. ALMOST ALL boat trailers use long bunks.

The 2013 aluminum 26M trailer that came with 'boat' had V blocks.

An I LOVE THEM!

Retrieving the boat is so much better with the V block - the boat is always centered and always level on the trailer no matter what heel it was at when i pulled it out of the water - you just can't do that with long bunks. I was concerned about the hull when I noticed the V bunks the day I trailered the boat home - first thing I did when home was look under the dinette seat to see if there was any hull deflection - to my surprise i found that the factory had built up a rib about ten inches wide from port to starboard in the area of the hull where it rests on the V blocks. Normally I would worry about V blocks damaging the hull, but it appears the factory has already taken that into account.
