I just got my new to me mac X.
Im replacing all the old tired rope. Want to do the centerboard line as it looks like hull. How do i go about it.
It looks like i unbolt the stirrup to lower the keel and get at it. But theres no moving that stud once i get the nut off. Before i move to "a bigger hammer" and punch a hole straight through my locker, anyone able to point me in the right direction?

Thats it, just give it a wack and it will pop free, there is a lot of 5200 on it from the factory. (careful not to damage the threads)

Thanks. In my experience, usually when it doesnt even begin to budge, its not stuck, youre doing it wrong. I guess addendum; glue not withstanding.
I'll try to get a good swing at it with a deadblow or wood hammer.

Did the factory really use 5200 there?

When I did mine I used life caulk to reseal it. You only need to get a seal, and I think its above the non-heeling waterline anyway. The bolt applies more than enough hold.

It appears to be more of a silly cone caulk... At least what was under the washer.

Ive never used 5200 so i cant say what its like. But gotta be harder than that. Whatever is going on. The thing wont budge. Yet to find my deadblow hammer and get on that

OK before you hit it First Put the Nut back on to protect the threads - finger tight is fine second use a piece of wood to protect the nut then gradually increase force AFTER releasing the old rope because if the rope is tight it will hold it up against the boat and in theory you will damage the center board.

Ok. Not budging a mm. Center board is swung down to trailer. Its a venture, not a factory, so its down about 6-10 inches at the back. Theres only one bolt... By just to be sure... About 16 inches in front of the pole the rope runs down. Right? Acess through starboard front seat ( the one with removable backrest.)

Im worried im bending it. Using a fairly light deadblow hammer. Ive removed vw bug hub nuts with it, this should be no problem, but i cant get more than a 6" swing.

Ugh finally. It just all of a sudden fell. No movement ( was bouncing about half a thread) then womp. Caught my centerboard with a rope rigged under it

That was harder than it needed to be. Got the old rope out. Ran the "new" ( better than opd dry run rope) run up to deck, but centerboard doesnt come down enough to run the rope through (its a size too big or itd be easy). Off to the store to buy the appropriate line.

This is something I have been needing to myself. Hope it all goes well.

Just did mine on my '02 .. 15 minute job. Used 1/4" AMSTEEL from these folks

and 4200 to seal everything back up. Was cheap, 16' for $27 shipped. Same thing they use for winches. Used the old rope to pull the new one through then tied the same knot off and all done.

I just checked the website and couldn't find the size and price you quoted. Everything is too long and pricey.

I just checked the website and couldn't find the size and price you quoted. Everything is too long and pricey.

I agree I think I spent like $1.00 a foot from WestMarine and did my own splice its very easy rope to splice you simply double it through its own strands in both directions and then tuck the end. I didnt have a Splicing kit so I cut the end off a ball point pen to use as a tuck guide.
