Thanks, Russ. I just realized in looking back on it that the yellow ball is all wrong though... here's the revised versions with a more appropriate white background (sorry, blue just ain't gonna work!):
I agree, the white background looks better. And it's manufacturer and model independent. Works for all Magregors and even Tattoos. Well, the M is more Macgregorish.
This is the 'first' post in this thread. The others previous to this were added from the original discussion that started over in the "The New Tattoo" thread. I moved them here for consolidation and clarity.
Taking Kevin's boat show sticker design, I thought it would make a great non-official burgee for Mac owners.
So a quick look at making actual burgees, this design might be costly. Each color adds cost. I'm seeing at least 4-5 colors here. It's still a nice burgee. Looking at about $250 setup cost and manufacture cost of $18 each, if we sold 20 of them, each would cost about $30. Price drops with volume.
With that said, is there any interest in a Macgregor burgee and what would you be willing to spend on one.
Yeah, you're right, Russ. Maybe I should incorporate the Tattoo "T" as well?
I think this looks better now.... good that you picked that out... the additional logo adds a splash of new color to the burgee (recognizing the new and more colorful boats as well as other new changes)... and the "T" reaches out beyond the "M" bubble (i.e symbolically still in the MacGregor world, but reaching out to new horizons and new ideas).... what do you think?
From the color of the special star field on the Admirals/Admins flag, looks like it is a indication that Admirals/Admins have blue hulled boats - fitting since they are better

Ha! Yeah, I suppose it does, Robert. But a blue circle with white stars is a common naval admiralty device/logo.

Well, they kinda are when you get 'em!
But that being said... you could consider the Mac/Tattoo as representing an MT ('empty') canvas on which one can design one's own unique boat by adding your personal options and changes. (How's that for liberally creative interpretation!?)
Why not just put two blue stars on for the admins, one below the M and behind the Puffin, and the other below the Puffins beak. Or is there a significance in the five stars....

The daily rum ration used to be a common British admiralty "device" - I have the requisite bottle of Pusser's on board (there since we first launched) but find other rums much more palatable. As a matter of fact, there is a whole lot of blue background on the Pusser's rum label - guess he Royal Navy appreciated the excellent qualities of blue colored items.

Well, it was designed to be a burgee originally, and not a sticker... so those stars would be *very* hard to see from a distance and up on the mast of a boat. The blue ball with stars was more easily recognized.
I've moved the 'burgee' posts over to here from the "The New Tattoo" thread. Let's discuss it here in Russ' thread instead of there as it all kind of goes together.
Background on the burgee's creation, buried within other posts...
Years ago I made a Mac burgee using one of the MacGregor clan tartans with an "M" in a ball with a "Puffin" bird mascot (a black & white, plump, somewhat quirky yet surprisingly graceful Scottish waterfowl - seemed appropriate! )... it was created as a bit of a joke....
....
...the additional ["T" for Tattoo] logo adds a splash of new color to the burgee (recognizing the new and more colorful boats as well as other new changes)... and the "T" reaches out beyond the "M" bubble (i.e symbolically still in the MacGregor world, but reaching out to new horizons and new ideas)
...but hey, if you guys like it I'm happy to have it used as an unofficial MacGregor/Tattoo burgee.
(Umm... Russ, when do I get my cut of the massive profits on this deal? )
I somewhat agree with seahouse. I'm a terrible graphic designer so don't take my opinion for much. Flying this one on my boat, people will think it has something to do with my state (MT).
I like the T in the logo, is it possible to superimpose the T on top of the M?
Also, for a burgee, one might consider symmetry. How will it look from the other side? I have a burgee from Raritan Bay Power Squadron that I fly. When reversed, the R & B in the logo don't make sense.
