Hey Kevin, do you have the puffin design in a high res image. I blew it up and it got blurry.

No. I have to make it from scratch since I no longer have the original files. Besides, I thought nobody wanted the dang puffin?!

Digging this one up from the dead.

Russ, did you ever do anything with making a burgee?

Are folks here interested in one? My original design was a Macgregor plaid background with a Puffin (bird) in a white circle. I chose the puffin as it is a bird that is not particularly sleek or fast-looking, but that is decidedly “built for purpose”, and as such it’s a fitting symbol.

:D Boy Kevin, you have definitely dug up an old one.

Let’s see if there are a variety of suggestions. 8). By the way, I like your idea. Resurrected from the dead. Of course a Puffin is black & white, or is it white & black :?: No blue Puffins.

P.S. You reasoning for a puffin also works for a Pelican.

I've explained it several times in this thread, but here's some snippets that may help...
... Years ago I made a Mac burgee using one of the MacGregor clan tartans with an "M" in a ball with a "Puffin" bird mascot (a black & white, plump, somewhat quirky yet surprisingly graceful Scottish waterfowl - seemed appropriate! ;))... it was created as a bit of a joke....
... Besides, you loose all the silly symbolism of the Puffin! A goofy, clumsy, Scottish bird that nobody would ever say was beautiful, but it's definitely "built-for-purpose" and entirely unique - nothing else looks like one - and it's amazingly successful in it's environment.
... And since (mostly) they were black & white boats it seemed appropriate to have a (mostly) black & white bird to represent all of them. The goofiness of the Puffin just adds a bit of tongue-in-cheek amusement to the burgee, IMHO.
The point to both the puffin and the 'waterbago' was a bit of self-deprecating humor.

I'm thinking a puffin (sans letter) is the most generic version.

Kevin, can you generate one without the letter. I will get quotes for pricing.
Okay okay maybe slightly less ugly.

Would this be better than a Puffin; it’s also not blue, and meets Kevin’s specifications. :D

I still like the Puffin.

I'm going to check with a local vendor who makes such things and get some prices.

I’m so glad you found that, Ray - thanks. I looked everywhere and couldn’t find a copy of my original design.

So, folks, above is what I designed many years ago.

Thoughts?

As for the pelican… well… how the heck are you gonna fit a beak like that on a burgee? :D

Make the burgee looonger.

Originally (2013) thanks to HaminX’s design, I preferred the “Waterbago” design, Image but I have changed my mind.

I believe it was Divecoz who said something to the effect that it was too self-depreciating and people would not understand it. I responded with this.

“Just to set things straight, expressing great pride in yourself through self deprecation is nothing new. If I may resort to my marketing background, here are some examples.

Volkswagen had a very successful series of commercials using the extremely tall Wilt Chamberlain. Those self deprecating commercials basically stated, "No matter how we tried, we could not fit Wilt Chamberlain into a Volkswagen" :D Those ads were a complete success. 8)

The Sunsweet prune company used to advertise what people most dislike about prunes, wrinkles and pits. They said with pride that they got rid of the pits, but the wrinkles were another matter. Another success.

Then there was the Capital One ad where Alec Baldwin was asked if he could play games on his smart phone. His reply, "Just not on the tarmac, believe me!" :) After being thrown off of a flight for ignoring a request from the crew to stop playing games on his phone while the plane he was on was sitting on a tarmac, this was extremely self deprecating, yet successful. :D

Laughing at ourselves is good medicine. A waterbago on a burgee, :D 8) Some of us tell other sailors that we may not win the race, but when it's over, we can get back to the bar the fastest! Well now we could display that we take the bar with us no matter where we go. Who knows? maybe next we can borrow the U.S. Army's theme song and make it ours. "Over hill, over dale, our Mac's hit the dusty trail, and our sailing goes on and on! :D

Yup; I now prefer the Pufin.

We could do this one for $12 plus shipping. Grommets on the Left side.
I kind of like this design.

Any interest. Cheaper if we order more of them. Is the 1.5' x 1' the right size?

I don’t believe the ”M" should be removed. “M" stands for MacGregor, not a particular class of MacGregor; we don’t want to be confused as Puffin boat owners do we? https://www.puffinboatcompany.com/ Also, speaking as a painter, I do believe that the placement of the sphere is correct where Kevin placed it. The visual perspective is perfect.
