Went out today - was just about as nice as it could be.
Waves were > a foot. Apparent wind was approx 10 knots. I was able to get up to 5 - 5.4 mph @ 60 degrees at 15-20 degree heel. Since the hull speed is 6 kph, I felt that I was probably seeing optimum conditions.
sounds good to me...I for one, and the admiral, are a big fan of light winds....don't want to spill our drinks

If you were doing 6 knots in 10 knots of apparent wind, you were getting better efficiency than I've ever gotten. The best efficiency I've seen is about 50%, or 5 knots in 10.
Excellent!

You are not helping the M's out publishing those figures here. Your suppose to keep those figures to yourself and say "hey great".
We need to keep the X's thinking we are faster and COOLER

I'm happy getting 50% of the wind speed up to about 5 kts of boat speed. I don't normally get much about 5 kts no matter what the wind speed is because I end up reefing/furling to keep from heeling too much. This weekend is forecast 4-8mph so if I can get 3-4 kts any time this weekend I'll be satisfied. Heck, even 2 kts is welcome at times when having to motor over to the ripples in the water.

I eeked out 5.6 knots today in what I estimate to be about 13-15 knots of wind under double-reefed main and matching furled jib, upwind about 30 degrees or so off the wind and about 15-20 degree heel.
That's about as fast as I've ever gotten. I do think I hit 6 knots sustained a couple years ago but those were some near perfect conditions that day I think.
Was a beautiful, stellar day today though. Sailed across the lake to this little spot that looked like a skull/pirate cave to me. Anchored, played some Pirates of the Caribbean music, flew the pirate flag, and took a little nap before coming back
