Is the motor tilted up in the pic with the shoes ! Is it hinged to fold up when the motor comes up or is it fixed in place ?

Doe,s not look like it tilts up so i,d think it could be a little hair raising in a following sea ! :o
Also those ladder brkt,s would be nasty on the bare feet or a stumped toe

You can see that the hinge mechanism is aligned with the hinge axis on the motor. The question is can you bring it up without bringing the motor up, because following waves would really grab that thing.

The tiller mod is the one I liked the most.
On a :macx: it would be a really easy mod. I think I'm going to copy it. Been wanting to use a tiller auto pilot but didn't like it being under the rear platform I made. This will work great with a swing back tiller handle to remove it from the cockpit while not in use.

That autopilot takes up so much room it should wear a life jacket :)

Should be relatively easy to mount that below decks on the rudder crossbar, rather than taking up half the cockpit. They have a wireless remote for some models you could control it with.

I have thought about a tiller type autopilot (because of the cost) but am hung up on how to disconnect if mounted below deck (as I was considering mounting it).

I mounted my tiller pilot actuator directly to the bar connecting the two rudders inside astern of the rear berth as per Kadet's mod. Works great. I don't bother disconnecting it when not in use as the steering still works fine and the slight resistance provided by the actuator even when switched off stiffens up the steering so that it does not wander as much with wave action on the rudders. Very happy with this mod.
