Same thing in Iowa. I didn't even bother to launch. The local lake is so low, that the area where I used to dinghy to the boat is ankle-deep, or worse. Forget about pulling to the shore--unless you have wheels.
Putter around the boat for the past couple of weeks--rebuilt a folding table, installed a new Garmin... but I'd much rather be on the water

It's up again a foot from last year. That's a LOT of fresh water. A big percentage of the fresh water on the planet. Only Baikal has more. 8)

And it's a little more than a mile deep at its deepest. :o

Wish we could send some water your way. All the lakes here in Dallas are FULL now. The lake I sail at most of the time went up around 10ft in less than a month.

Lived in Boulder City for 46 years. In 1982 the Lake Mead topped the spillway for the second time since the dam was completed. Now there is dry land that hasn't been seen in 50 years. The launch ramps are being extended at this time in anticipation that the water level will rise?? Meanwhile the County is allowing thousands of homes to be built in the Las Vegas Valley. Common sense is not so common. Fair Winds and Full Sails...

I live in Calgary, and sail at ghost lake -- we had a flood a few years ago and now everyone is paranoid.. so they dropped the reservoir level so low it is unusable. they say we might be able to use it in august... great 2 months of sailing, one of them in cool weather. boo.

Reminds me of the Oklahoma "dust bowel". The first 4 expeditions to California starved to death.

The latter 1/2 of the 20th century pretty much "raped" the aquifers, etc. What's going on is simply not sustainable. :?

Hi all,

And yet, just down river, Lake Havasu never changes more than about 6 inches. In fact, most of the lakes on the Colorado I've seen haven't changed very much, except Mead. So, what's up with that :?:

Meanwhile here in California, Guess when the last time in recent history we were having the "WORST DROUGHT IN HISTORY!".....................
Well, that would be 30 some years ago when we had the same governor as we do now. Didn't think he would ever get elected again, but people forget.

California has been dumping all kinds of water, not storing it but letting in run to the sea. Anyone heard of the Delta Smelt? Well we are letting the grass die here for the sake of a minnow's habitat :? I think it's more political in nature. Just imagine if you have power to turn off the water in the CA. central valley (formerly known as America's produce basket) and happen to own a large produce company in, say...... South America somewhere....... or Mexico...............

There was a plan to create a much larger system to store water in Ca. years ago. However, as work got started on this effort, "environmentalists" put pressure on state officials to stop for various reasons. Most of these were in the name of ruining the habitat of some plant or creature, or locking some poor fish between a couple dams.

So, here we are today......... I heard the governor, just a few days ago, complaining that population growth was a large reason we are running out of water here. A couple days later he was announcing that undocumented persons would now qualify for "Covered California" (Ca.'s Obama Care). That won't cause the population to grow even faster?

Best Breezes,
Steve K.
