I recently bought a second hand ST4000+ autopilot off ebay, which worked perfectly ok.....until I started messing with it. In my haste to see it working, I connected it to an unfused power source and it seems I have "blown up" the head unit Soooo, I was wondering if anyone had a spare, surplus to needs, just lyin' around head unit that they would like to sell me? Probably a giant shot in the dark, but....

Sorry to hear about your trouble. I had similar experience with Autohelm 4000 Autopilot. I connected it to 12 V battery charger to see it work. But power was not clean enough and it didn't work. I even contacted seller. But when I connected it to 12 V battery I just bought for my lawn tractor the autopilot worked great.

May be you didn't burn control head. Power source doesn't have to be fused (to test unit) as long as it is 12 V and polarity is right. Try connecting it to 12 V battery. May be it still works.
