Mast for a V 222?

Post by Wingnut1956 »

I'm thinking about buying this boat for $200.00 but it doesn't have a mast. I have another mast located that is the correct length but a smaller diameter. The original mast was about 3" diameter and the new/used mast is about 2.25" diameter.
I will be sailing on a small lake in Missouri with 15 mph winds, 20 mph gust?
I'm not sure what boat the smaller mast came off of.
From my research it seems that the stays and shrouds hold the mast in place against the wind and the mast itself provides compressive strength to hold the sail aloft???
Am I asking to much from the smaller mast?
I would love to use a standard mast but haven't been able to locate one here in Missouri.
Id appreciate your input. :tat22:

You can make anything work...

Read the thread "I'm back, Bimini top....." in the Venture forum on this site.

I experimented with a variety of different masts and styles of rigging

The mast you are looking at getting would work...I have proven that "anything" will work...

work well, that depends 8) 8)

The standard mast extrusion for V-222 is Sparcraft S-104 or equivalent. This extrusion was used for all older Ventures, 17,21,22,23,24,25. If you can locate anyone with on these models you can compare to what you are thinking of using. Fair Winds and Full Sails...Old Salt.

I have a mast and all the rigging for a V 222 1971. You can have it for $50.00 I don't think the smaller mast would be safe.

I live in Washington Missouri. I'm going to see if I can email you my phone number so we can plan the pick up.

Old salt = Smart Guy!

I'm starting to notice that 17-25 has many standard components... I guess Catalina's bear many similarities also.. Just picked up a bow rail from a cat 25 that will fit perfect on my Mac

Most of the things I have added to my boat over the years came from buying older boats and scrapping them...

you would be surprised what will fit sometimes...
