I just bought a 1988 26D. In a box in the cabin I found these four items. Does anyone know what they are and what they are used for? Thanks.

Warren631,

Welcome to the club, I also bought an 88 26D last summer. Also, the guys on the forum like pizza.

The first two look like the bracket for mounting your mast to the deck and the other looks like the mounting bracket for the pulpit. I'll crawl under the winter cover and try to take pictures of them in the correct place.

I've got no clue of what the other one would be.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing what you do with the new to you 26D.

PM me if you have any questions as we are a usually friendly bunch around here.

Curwen

The first picture looks like a pair of toe-clips off as set of cross country ski's :)

The two that look the same are the mast base which bolts the the bottom of the mast and the foot plate. It stays attached to the mast at all times. The one bent is damaged from the mast swinging when either lifting or lowering. I know this 1st hand! It can be straightened. If you look at the bent one you can see which taper end goes to the front and rear of the mast. The rear bolt is the one which the mast pivots up and down on. The black one I believe to be an accessory for something. The small bracket I don't recognize. I can take pictures of the mast bracket if you need. Mine is setup beside the house this week. I also have an 88 D.

The black one looks like it clamps to the railing or a stanchion and might hold a spinnaker pole or something similar. Looks too intricate to be for a fishing pole. Did you get any accessories with the boat that it might fit on the end of? Is that ring made of rubber?

Thanks guys! I'm still not sure how those first two plates attach to the bottom of the mast or boat so I hope someone can take a closeup photo of theirs. The black parts of the 'ring thing' are a hard rubber.

Warren631,

Do you have a metal plate on your deck, in front of where the hole for the dagger board is located? There should be a plate there that the mast slides into and then uses a bolt to pivot the mast up.

Can you post a picture of the space in front of the dagger board hole?

Thank you.

I will take a picture of mine tonight and post. In front of the dagger board there are 2 L brackets. The plate that attaches to the mast with the front hole of the bracket you have pictures of, slides between and attach to the L brackets with the rear hole of the mast foot. This provides your pivot point for your mast.
PS: you only use one plate, not both.

Sorry Warren I am unable to figure out how to attach a photo. If you shoot me a private message with your email I will send them to you. Or if someone could explain how to attach a pic that would work as well.

The site doesn't host pics, so you need to upload them to a pic hosting site. http://www.tinypic.com requires no sign-up or account, so it's a quick and dirty way to put a picture in a post.

Just copy the link it returns* that has the ubb code at each end (img and /img), and paste that directly into your post. Leave a blank line before and after any text in the post for best readability. Hit the preview button to see what it looks like before submitting. It will be smaller than the full-size pic, which makes for quick page loading, and if you click on the image, the full-size image comes up in a new tab.

If you click the 'quote' button at the top of this post, you can see what it looks like behind the curtain with a pic in it.

*You might have to click on a pop-up advertisement and answer a 'question' before it uploads - seems to do that every other time I upload a pic.
