Smart tabs on X..yes or no?

Post by 81venture »

I bought a boston whaler the other week off craigslist with a 40hp tohatsu..
It had a pair of smart tabs on the back (trim tabs)

I stole them off the whaler and sold her for $1700

Wondering if the Trim tabs would be a good Idea to put on the X?

One of Aussie Macers did it. Maybe he'll chime in. Mind you there is a time difference

Hi
Having used tabs and trims, yes if you motor alot with loads aft. It allows you also to level left to right. I noticed on youtube that more powerfull engines weigh more, and in a way do seem to welly. I would look at a way to tighten the swing keel opening. On a youtube video, at a beach meeting, we see a 140 hp on a mac x. I wonder how fast he goes, trim tabs would vertainly help.

I would like to see how effective it would be for wakesurfing at 11 knots +- on a macX or any mac or tattoo .
Thinking also that on a close reach, it could be effective for the righting moment . I will put this on my program mod list.
Large ones and probably also forward of the mast on the sides, or even at the bow ... interesting , if you look at afep marine web site, you will see the revolution 29 . They claim that a round bow pardons in a gust.
The major thing about a round bow for me that it could be a sapper hull. And i hate that. It is a cute sound for a while, but at anchor or marina, no.
If i remember , the new trend for windsurfing boards is wide and large is quite pleasant.
For a mac, trailering width is a must. Nobody says one couldn't extension the sides. Hence add trim tabs where you like them.

I think you need to be going a lot faster than most Macs do for these to make sense.

Narrow or wide board? Russ doesn't know, he's from **** New Jersey....

I won't surf with a wide board, I'm an artist....
