Hey Guys,
My furler requires my Headsail halyard to raise the furler ( like all I suppose) but I don't want to constantly unravel the headsail, then pull it down to access the jib halyard to lower the mast. I would( like most of us with furling headsails) to leave it in the furled position when transporting. Off course this means my jib halyard is still at the top of the jib tang. Where am I going wrong here? Can I use the main halyard? If i do Is the twist from the top of the mast from the halyard going to give me issues as I lower using the MRS?

My CDI furler has its own block and internal halyard to raise the sail. We Have a single halyard block shackled to the mast at the furler shackle.
Consider to Add a double-pulley block up top, and a second halyard line if you must.
Actually my 1997X's MRS lifts using a block and tackle system which Attaches to mast and pulls mast up from about 6' up the mast.

Not sure how that would work using the stock jib halyard on the furler. It would wind itself around the forestay / furler? No? Is it possible the stock jib halyard has been removed and you're using the furler halyard? Maybe you just need to reinstall? Pics would help

Sounds like you have a conventional furler, not the CDI unit most of us have.

You have a few options. Add a static pendant to the halyard hound, just for the MRS. Or add a spinnaker hound and halyard about 18 inches [46 cm] above the jib hound, and keep it tied to the bow rail when not in use. Or add a bail to the mast where the MRS pole would touch it when swung up (26M style).

Or wrap the main halyard around the mast and use it. If the twisting moment that will induce bothers you, wrap the other end around the other way, and tie both to the MRS pole. They'll cancel each other out, and the load on the block will be half what it would be if only one end was used. Just look at the block carefully to see if that will cause a sharp bend in the line. If it does, cross them over in front of the mast to the opposite side so they don't. The halyard block is on the side, so that's probably what you'd have to do, but as long as the lines aren't taking a sharp bend, it should be fine.

We have a long sock cover that protects the genny from UV rays, etc. To raise the sock there was a line thru a block on the bale at the top of the furler. That block would sometimes interfere with the furler turning. I added a bale about 8 inches above the furler bale and raised the sock block to that bale. The sock line is long enough that I just tie the ends together and wrap them around the top of the MRS pole to raise or lower. When not in use the line is wrapped around a cleat on the mast.

I have a spare halyard. That's what I use for the MRS. Just a line from a shackle at the foot up to a block at the head and back down to a cleat on the mast.
