Black fuler Genoa

Hi Gents,
I'm currently gathering quotes for a new Genoa. I'm out of work at the moment so price is the deciding factor. One loft has offered to make me a black sail for a good price but I'm wondering if there's any disadvantage to going for black?... I'm getting UV tape so it protected from the sun when it's furled.
Also whats the Genoa size to go for for inshore/offshore cruising?.... 150%?
All the best

Neo if Central Coast is like up here in the Sunshine State

i.e predominantly SE trades 10-15 knots with afternoon NE at 15+ I found the 150 overkill and went for a 110 with a spinnaker for the very light days.
Main disadvantage of black sails is heat in summer and they will show every little salt splash as they calcify so you will be forever cleaning them if you are OCD I have a black bimini and have to give it a good scrubbing every time I wash the boat after going out

+2 Here
I just dont see the 150% Genoa overly useful, its too heavy for light winds and too big for stronger winds.
A nice 110% Jib, spinnaker and maybe a blooper or drifter (just about the same thing I think) for those really light days.

Would love to know more about bloopers and drifters?.... Sails? .... Are they specials (expensive)?
Also, I'm now wondering if a heavier cloth adds a lot of weight to a furler (with the Genoa rolled up) when raising the mast?
I'm a small guy and always raise the mast by myself. But I often struggle with the MRS winch in one hand and furler in the other (or my shoulder). Under it's own weight the drooping Furler can be a handful

...until the mast raises to around 45 degrees. I'd like to come up with a system that hold the CDI and pulls it towards the bow during this time, but I haven't given that enough thought yet.... Work in progress
All the best.

I'm a tad confused, because it's easy to shorten a 150 Genoa to 110. 'just sayn'.

Mike,
I find the 150 a great sail for my area.
There are days of very light winds. The extra square footage of the Genoa is terrific for that. It's not too heavy at all. On the other hand, if you are in a stiff breeze, furling it works fine.

Not everyone races. Some find a nice breeze, and furled Genoa to work just fine. With a nice wind to your back, it can gull wing very nicely.

With scissors?
I was wondering about furling it .... Not sure how that effect the performance of the sail? .... I guess the effective Sail area would be much higher of the deck causing it to heal more?

Would this be harder to do with a 110%?

Due to the shape Im not sure a furled 150% Genoa is a replacement for 110% Jib
Im still learning this stuff so would be happy for input.
If you furl the 150% wouldnt you then need to reroute the sheets to the cabin top, trying to sheet through the genoa blocks on the gunwales would give all the wrong angles to get decent sail shape

I use Bill's Eazy Cleats. They are great. It make solo sailing a breeze.
